Education Assistants

The program will run July 7 - July 27, 2025.

8:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. (with possibility of afternoons, optional)

Position Summary:

Since 2014, the KCDSB has coordinated and facilitated Summer Learning Programs (SLPs) in its schools. Backed by research conducted for the Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat, Ministry of Education, which revealed that SLPs reduce summer learning loss and build self-confidence for primary students. Most students enrolled in summer learning show increased enthusiasm for learning and improved achievement levels. These and other successes of the SLPs have been well documented both qualitatively and quantitatively.

The KCDSB SLP is a vibrant learning program with an innovative staff focused on increasing student faith development, well-being and achievement.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to act professionally and to support the school's safe, inclusive and accepting learning environment by being a positive role model
  • Responsible for carrying out duties assigned by the Principal, Learning Resource Teacher and Teachers
  • Responsible for supporting the needs of students
Duties:
  • Collaborate with staff on a regular basis to review students' programs
  • Support student Behaviour Success and Intervention Plans
  • Work with small groups of students
  • At the Principal's discretion perform other duties as required which are considered within the intent and scope of this position as a board employee
Qualifications:
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent is required
  • College diploma in related field (EA, CYW, SSW)
  • Training and/or experience working with students with varying degrees of behavioural, social and emotional needs
  • Knowledge and experience in ABA principles and practices
  • Strong collaboration skills working with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to adapt as required to meet the needs of a diverse school community
  • Computer literacy is required
