KPMG Law’s Tax Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice assists companies and individuals achieve timely and fair resolutions against in various tax disputes. We are involved at each stage of the tax dispute process – from pre-litigation to litigation in provincial and federal courts and tribunals.

What you will do
As a vital member of our Tax Litigation & Dispute Resolution team, you will participate in all stages of a dispute. Collaborating closely with partners, associates, paralegals, and administrative support, you will play a key role in assisting our clients through the dispute resolution process. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and possesses an interest in project management. The successful candidate will be proactive, able to identify and manage next steps, and ensure that tasks and projects remain organized and on track.
- Assist with productions and responses to the Canada Revenue Agency, including drafting responses and preparing documents
- Draft correspondence, lists of documents, affidavits, undertakings charts, transcript summaries, and various other documents
- Prepare court documents, including Books of Documents, Books of Authorities, and motion materials
- Prepare for meetings, discoveries, trials, and other related tasks as needed
- Attend and assist at discoveries, hearings, and client meetings, as required
- Communication with clients, the Canada Revenue Agency, courts, and related parties
- Perform e-Discovery tasks, including maintaining document databases, assisting with document production, completing objective coding, managing document reviews, and proposing workflows
- File management, including maintenance and organization of documents, and actively tracking deadlines, tasks, next steps
- Assist with best practices and items related to the paralegal/law clerk role within KPMG Law or KLaw
What you bring to the role
- In-office requirement: this is a hybrid role (in-office and work from home), however client and related deadlines take priority. The successful candidate will be required to be in the office on a weekly basis, and on an ad hoc basis for file assistance and support, with the option to work from home on days where appropriate.
- Paralegal degree/diploma, law clerk diploma or other credentials with relevant paralegal/law clerk experience
- 1-3 years of direct experience working in litigation
- Knowledge of the Tax Court, Federal Court, and Federal Court of Appeal is an asset but not required
- Proficient in standard office software such as MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe
- Strong knowledge of e-Discovery software such as Relativity, Ringtail/Nuix, is preferred
- A keen interest in e-Discovery, technology, and related advancements
- Excellent time management skills; ability to effectively manage conflicting requirements and priorities
- Strong communication, both written and verbal
- Initiative and high degree of autonomy
- Ability to work well both individually and as part of a team
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity and discretion
- Self-motivated to achieve high standards in all aspects of work
- Client service oriented and professional
