Autism and Behavioural Support Worker

35 hours per week

The Gwa'sala-'Nakwaxda'xw School is looking for a full-time Autism and Behavioural Support Worker for the 2024 - 2025 school year. This person will be working one-on-one with children on the autism spectrum.

We are a band-operated Independent School that enrols 120 students from Preschool to Grade 7. We use a trauma-informed practice to support our vision and embed traditional culture and language into curriculum planning, daily lessons, and yearly celebrations.

Qualifications:

Minimum grade 12 diploma

Child and Youth Care Degree or Education Assistant is an asset

Training or experience working with children with autism

Training or experience working with children with challenging behaviours

Able to complete criminal record check

Valid drivers license and vehicle for transportation

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Develop and maintain a warm, caring, positive, and responsive relationship with children

Maintain a positive, professional, respectful attitude

Develop and maintain consistent routines with individuals requiring support

Responsibilities:

Support student during in-class and out of class activities

Promote a positive and healthy environment for achieving educational, social, and recreational goals while focusing on daily life skills development

Support student to participate fully in various classroom settings

Work on specific educational goals to assist with student inclusion in various classroom settings

Able to work outdoors in various weather conditions

Contribute to a positive school culture

Work under the supervision of the administrative team and classroom teacher
