Wagalus School is seeking a creative, dynamic and innovative Teacher/Principal for the 2024/25 School Year. This vibrant elementary school serves preschool to Grade 7 with approximately 60 students and is located in the Fort Rupert Village on the northern coast of beautiful Vancouver Island. The school provides quality and relevant educational programs and services that weaves Kwak�wala and Kwakiutl culture throughout the curriculum. Staff collaborate to meet the individual needs of our students while preparing them to be successful in the 21st Century. The front of the school features a traditional big house that is the �heart of the school� which welcomes students, staff and visitors to our learning environment. Job Summary: As a senior member of the school, the Teacher/Principal is responsible for providing leadership, direction, supervision and overall administration for the Wagalus Elementary School that is consistent with the Kwakiutl culture. The Principal is responsible for: teaching up a maximum of 50%, implementing the BC Education curriculum; ensuring that the Kwak�wala language and Kwakiutl culture are woven throughout the curriculum; implementing the School�s vision, mission and philosophy; the instructional supervision and evaluation of school staff; and working closely and cooperatively with the Education Administrator, staff and parents. In fulfilling this role, the Principal is responsible for adhering to the BC School Act, the Ministry of Education, FNSA, the School�s and Band�s policies and procedures. Employment Qualifications: Master�s Degree in Education Leadership. Experience in senior leadership in a school setting. 3 years of teaching experience, preferably in a First Nation school. Good standing with the Teacher Regulation Branch and current BC Teaching Certificate In-depth knowledge of the new BC Education curriculum Excellent communication skills, verbal and written Knowledge of First Nation Schools Knowledge of literacy and numeracy programs and best practices Knowledge of DIBELS, FSA and CAT4 testing for analysis and implementation school-wide Knowledge and experience in using of the DRUMS reporting system for BCTEA and Reciprocal Tuition, including TRAX for data transfer/submission to the Ministry of Education, an asset Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills Team player and an ability to foster a positive team environment Excellent organizational, administrative and technology skills Financial experience including forecasting, proposal writing, record keeping and audits, an asset Clear Criminal Record Check working with vulnerable populations Valid Class 5 BC Driver�s License. Salary: Up to $144,882 (negotiable depending on qualifications and experience).
