You are an experienced M&E Professional who will be the driving force behind mechanical and electrical (M&E) excellence for of various ICI and residential projects within the Greater Toronto Area. You’ll lead the charge in ensuring cost accuracy, design optimization, and seamless coordination of M&E scopes during the bid and preconstruction phases. Essential Responsibilities
- Develop detailed M&E budgets, breaking down costs by component and scope while validating subcontractor quotes against design changes
- Benchmark M&E system costs using historical data and implement value analysis opportunities during preliminary design reviews
- Source cost-effective equipment and fixtures, considering lead times and lifecycle costs, while identifying risks and resolving conflicts pre-bid
- Collaborate with subtrades to optimize budgets, negotiate scope splits, and ensure competitive pricing
- Lead pre-bid meetings to eliminate scope gaps, manage supplier RFP’s, and draft clear subcontract scopes
- Coordinate utility approvals for temporary and permanent connections, ESA inspections and support GMP development to align with client expectations
- Standardize cost templates by project type, mentor junior estimators on trade specific metrics, and refine future assumptions through post-bid audits
Qualifications
- 8+ years in M&E estimating or preconstruction with ICI or high-rise residential projects
- Prior experience in a supervisory or management capacity overseeing M&E estimating, preconstruction or trade coordination
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection) and electrical (power distribution, lighting, low voltage) systems for ICI/high-rise projects
- Proven success leading bid teams on large-scale projects, ensuring budget accuracy and subcontractor selection
- Prior field experience as an M&E subtrade foreperson, project coordinator, or engineer, with expertise in design-assist collaboration to optimize systems pre-tender
- Strong relationships with mechanical/electrical suppliers and specialty subcontractors
- Skilled in negotiation to prequalify subcontractors, clarify scopes, and secure competitive pricing
- Experience identifying and mitigating M&E-specific risks
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and BIM models for accurate takeoffs and scope validation.
- Proficiency in M&E-specific estimating software
- LEED or net-zero energy project experience is an asset
Work Conditions
- Office/Site based position with 25% travel required within the Greater Toronto Area
