We have an opening in our Welding Laboratory group for a Mechanical Designer with a strong background in machine design. A successful candidate will work with other members of our engineering team to design and implement various elements of complex welding systems.

Job Description:

As a Mechanical Designer you will be a part of the Welding Laboratory group. You will be responsible for supporting the design needs of our Welding Laboratory group and existing automated welding systems and tooling, implementing continuous improvement, and developing new designs as required. Almost all of our systems are somewhat unique based on our internal requirements and customers specific requirements. Designers will usually be assigned to specific machine builds and be responsible for the mechanical design over the entire life of the project.

Typical Duties Include (but are not limited to):

Development of machine and fixture design from concept to detail drawings

  • Review of the design interaction with other machines and tools in a complex system
  • Review of design compliance to technical specifications and requirements
  • Development of technical documents such as, testing procedures and manuals
  • Development of design compliance documents including FMEA, FME and other reports
  • Interaction with the customer, internal team and vendors to ensure schedule compliance
  • Project management

Key Education/Experience Requirements:

Mechanical Engineering Degree or Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma is required

  • 3D CAD experience required, Solid Edge experience an asset
  • Practical design experience strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of welding processes, specifically LASER, GTAW, and PAW an asset
  • Robotics experience an asset
