Looking for Non-Student Bakery Clerk

Why is this role important

Our Store Team Members are inspired doers. They help provide a positive in-store shopping experience by ensuring the store is always ready with available products that meet customer needs to live life well. Our Clerks inspire our customers through delightful conversation and knowledge of products.

Primary Responsibility

To ensure the completion for tasks assigned for achieving the store standards and quality of products and services within Common Labour expectations.

Responsible to follow the occupational health and safety act. Must protect his or her own health and safety by working in compliance with the law and with safe work practices and procedures established by the company. Responsible to report both incidents/accidents and illnesses and review all Occupational Health and Safety policies for a safer, healthier workplace.

Responsibilities of the Employees - Section - 28, Occupational Health and Safety Act

Employees have responsibilities to the Department Manager/Designated and the Joint Health and Safety Committee to work in compliance with the provisions of the Act, for a healthy and safe work environment.

The employee will :

  • Follow the Department Manager/Designated instructions regarding safe work procedures and work in a manner that protects himself/herself as well as others.
  • Use and wear equipment, protective devices or clothing that his/her employer requires to be used, or worn.
  • Report to the Department Manager/Designate/Occupational Heath and Safety Representative, the absence of or defect in any equipment or protective devices of which he/she is aware and which may endanger himself/herself or another employee.
  • Report any contravention of this Act or the existence of any hazards to the Department Manager/Designate/Occupational Health and Safety Representative.
  • Not remove or make ineffective any protective devices without providing an adequate temporary protective device.
  • Operate equipment in a safe manner. Do not use or operate any equipment, machine, device or thing or work in a manner that may endanger himself/herself or any other employee.
  • Not engage in prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct.
  • Be familiar with procedures to be carried out in the event of a disaster.
  • To know, understand and apply the Health and Safety Policy and the Occupational Health and Safety Legislation.

Primary Tasks:

  • Mix icing according to store standards and formulas.
  • Ice and decorate cakes and other products.
  • Clean and maintain cake counters and coolers.
  • Fill, maintain and empty counter.
  • Fill customer requests, take special orders.
  • Bake products according to quality.
  • Slice bread.
  • Package and label all products produced (label and display).
  • Cleaning - vacuum, sweep and mop floors in departments.
  • Ensure product freshness by checking code dates.
  • Provide great customer service by ensuring the store shelves are stocked and by responding to customer needs
  • Maintain and stock product displays and shelves that meet company standards
  • Ensure accurate product scanning and identify inventory needs and assist with ordering
  • Setup company-directed promotions and programs
  • Keep department areas neat and ensure health and safety standards
  • Other tasks as assigned

Areas of Competency, Requirements:

  • Able to meet needs and demand of customers in a friendly and efficient manner.
  • Knowledge of baking methods and decorating techniques, having an artistic quality is an asset.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • In-depth product knowledge.
  • Understand the store's policies and procedures.
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset.
  • Able to work as a member of a team and support the execution of team goals.

Work Conditions:

Requires a fair amount of physical activity. Carrying and lifting boxes of baked products. Standing and walking throughout the shift. Incumbents must be alert (pricing, receiving, etc.) and will have to deal with customer complaints and/or occasional irate customers. Must constantly be attentive of working habits (i.e., cutting habits, proper use of ovens, as per the store's knife policy, oven use policy, and use of personal protective equipment).
