The pension and Savings team is part of the Total rewards Centre of Excellence (“COE”) at Loblaw Companies Limited. The mandate of the Total Rewards COE is to provide strategic, financial and technical expertise on all employee and executive compensation and benefits programs to Loblaw Company Limited and its Canadian and US operating companies, including the company-owned companies like Joe Fresh and Shoppers Drug Mart and franchise businesses. The COE also provides advisory support services to its affiliate companies, George Weston Limited, Choice Properties, Wittington and Holt Renfrew.

In its day-to-day activities, the pension and savings team works with the businesses in assessing and maintaining plans to support HR and financial for several defined benefit and defined contribution pension and savings plans. covering over 200,000 colleagues.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Total Rewards, the primary mandates of the Director of Pensions & Savings will be leading a small team to help develop and implement the enterprise wealth strategy, establish standard processes for various administrative functions as well as provide consulting and actuarial support working with other team specialists.

Direct reports will include Senior Manager, Pensions and Senior Analyst, Pensions

Responsibilities:

Support the Total Rewards Mandate and Lead the Pensions & Savings Team:

  • Help establish and implement the framework for any wealth strategy across the businesses

  • Provide strategic and advisory support as required by the businesses

  • Ability to proactively identify areas of improvement and ways to support our people strategy

  • Identify and help implement an enterprise service model for pensions and savings

  • Work on team efficiency and structure and continue to develop talent within the team

Technical Expertise and Relationship Management:

  • Support the annual pension audit process and quarterly corporate accounting requirements

  • Work with the businesses and financial reporting department on quarterly and year-end expenses and budgets

  • Work closely with the Senior Director, Investments to help prepare and present materials for the quarterly Management Pension and Benefits Committee meetings

  • Prepare memos and concise understandable presentations on complex or technical concepts

  • Actively manage relationships with corporate departments, vendors, regulators, etc.

  • Provide peer review and guidance on program operations and special projects as they come due

  • Stay current on industry trends, regulatory and actuarial requirements for pension and savings plans

Qualifications:

  • Pension actuary with over ten years of actuarial and consulting experience on both defined benefit and capital accumulation plans

  • FCIA, FSA designation

  • Exemplary project management skills with a track record of consistently delivering results

  • Confidence, maturity and credibility to interact with and present to senior-level business leaders internally and externally

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, engage and develop colleagues, work effectively in a dynamic team environment, and contribute to a positive, effective team atmosphere.

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
