Loblaws Inc. is looking for a legal representative with experience and an interest in labour law to join our Legal Department.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Legal Counsel for matters of labour law, the candidate will be responsible for supporting the Montreal office’s legal team in managing all labour law, employment and human rights issues in Quebec and Atlantic Canada, both at the retail level (Maxi, Provigo, Club entrepôt, Pharmaprix, Shoppers Drug Mart, Dominion, Real Atlantic Superstore etc.) and the supply chain level. You will be part of a team of customer-oriented professionals, committed to working to a high standard in a collaborative and professional manner.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out caselaw research ;
  • Analyze complaint files, as well as the evidence ;
  • Assist in the preparation of arbitration and human rights matters ;
  • Draft a variety of legal documents ;
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations and training for the company ;
  • Preparation of matters submitted to the Small Claims Division, as required ;
  • Keep abreast of recent legislative updates and decisions and provide relevant updates to the legal team and its business partners ;
  • Work closely with the legal team based in Toronto ;
  • Work closely with the company to process litigation files, collect data, and provide relevant updates, etc. ;
  • Organize files, correspondence and related documents ;
  • Organize and maintain the data management system, including research management, legal advice, decisions, etc. ;
  • Assist with other related legal and administrative tasks.

Required skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Diploma or training in legal studies or equivalent ;
  • Two to five years in a similar role, preferably in labour law ;
  • Labour law experience in other provinces is an asset ;
  • Advanced communication skills in French and English, due to responsibilities outside Quebec ;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SOQUIJ and other research tools.
