ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The successful candidate will collaborate with a team of five Trademark Agents, who collaborate closely with experienced lawyers. The Trademark Law Clerk will play a pivotal role in trademark prosecution, opposition proceedings, summary cancellations, and related disputes. This position presents significant growth opportunities, as it has become available through strategic succession planning within the team.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Input new matters into the IP Practice Management system and manage dockets for critical deadlines.

Prepare, file, and manage Trademark applications across diverse industries in Canada.

Collaborate effectively within the Paraprofessional Services Group to handle overflow tasks, urgent deadlines, and provide backup coverage as needed.

Review and report on official correspondence from the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO).

Communicate with the CIPO to address procedural issues in real-time, ensuring smooth prosecution of trademark applications and registrations.

THE REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 5 years’ experience with relevant Trademark experience.

Knowledge of document management systems (iManage knowledge an asset).

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite preferred.

Paralegal, Law Clerk, or Legal Assistant Diploma essential.

Self-starter who is able to work autonomously, without supervision.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

A team player with a strong work ethic and a desire for continuous improvement.

COMPENSATION

$65,000 - $70,000 salary DOE.

Bonus if billable hours exceeded.
