Reports to: Director, Centre of Store Commodities

The Manager, Commodities manages cost change proposals & commodity expertise for Centre of Store (health & beauty, drug, natural value) by reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating changes to product costs and producing materials to support Loblaw key strategic sourcing initiatives to ensure that Loblaw Companies has the best cost of goods.

Accountabilities:

Cost Increase Management

  • Review, analyze, quantify, and communicate findings on supplier-proposed cost changes, working collaboratively with the Director on high-impact accounts
  • Facilitate the process of each negotiation. This requires coordinating with other members of the commodities team, costing, procurement, and merchandising
  • As needed, meet with suppliers to advocate Loblaw Companies position with partner groups to drive successful resolution

Cost Improvement & Strategic Sourcing

  • Enable cost improvement throughout the business from available market data and performance insights. Build materials supporting these initiatives and lead conversations with vendors to deliver results
  • Leverage business trends along with category and supplier performance data to identify specific opportunities requiring attention through cost reductions

Process Improvement

  • Work with the team to expand on other incremental business opportunities for the commodities team including process automation, improvement of commodity market analytics publications, and joint buying opportunities
  • Partner with costing team, Procurement and our vendors to socialize compliance policies, and ensure adherence to our required practices

Requirements:

  • University degree in business, economics, mathematics, or a related field
  • 2-3 years related experience with foundational understanding of commodity markets, principles of costing, and procurement or merchandising
