General Purpose

The Specialist is a pivotal role which provides required support to District Manager, Franchisees, Department Managers and other store personnel to ensure impeccable execution on both merchandising and operational standards in order to achieve growth in sales, profit and market share for the Produce, Bulk and Salad Bar Departments.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Working with the Fortinos stores, support the Franchisee in compliance with Company standards; policies/procedures and consistent execution of format process and strategy.
  • Provide on-going feedback to stores, DMs for such things as balancing the skills set of the department to the volume/layout of the stores, assisting in succession planning discussions based on observations.
  • Act as a liaison to ensure effective collaboration between stores, applying expertise in operations and merchandising to help provide clarity and reach agreement on specific standards of execution.
  • Conduct store visits, analyze store performance, develop action plans and provide feedback to the Franchisees, Department Manager, Senior Director, Produce and District Manager.
  • Identify stores that require priority assistance in reducing shrink; develop action plans with Franchisees and Department Managers to address this issue, and work with them to implement the action plan.
  • Training, coaching and teambuilding within the Salad Bar/Bulk department;
  • Work closely with the Franchisees to ensure gross profit; merchandising; and labour; is within acceptable standards;
  • To work with Sr. Director, to ensure products and service meet standards;
  • To monitor the profit and loss statements of each individual department and to recommend any necessary corrective measures;
  • Work with stores to ensure high levels of conditions and product availability;
  • Ensure that department budgets are met and support department in achieving targets for sales, margins, period end results, inventory, and shrink;
  • Achievement of department sales, margins, period end, inventory, shrink targets
  • Improvement of priority stores’ departments upon implementation of specialist-driven action plan;
  • As required, help departments resolve issues (i.e. credits, labour scheduling and etc...)
  • As required, assist with new store opening and refurbishments.
  • Responsible to provide support to other areas in the absence of the other Specialist.
  • Others duties as required.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years managerial experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Produce Salad Bar & Bulk operations.
  • Food Safety training an asset.
  • Willingness to follow a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be adaptable to work in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of the collective agreement, Health and Safety policies, practices and laws
  • Computer skills - Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Superior customer relations skills and a strong sense of professionalism.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is an asset.

Key Competencies

  • Valid Ontario drivers license with ability to travel within Ontario on a daily basis to support store functions.
  • Strong problem solving skills including experience formulating and executing action plans.
  • Must possess good people skills, communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Excellent customer service skills with a demonstrated customer focus.
  • Demonstrate the ability to impact and influence the business and their required outcomes
  • Demonstrated time management skills with the ability to multi task.
