Reporting to the Manager, Finance, Retail FP&A - Wage Analytics, the Senior Financial Analyst will perform Wage & Benefits financial planning & analysis requirements for all Retail Drug Stores within the SDM Division.
Specifically, this role will be responsible for the financial planning and analysis requirements associated with Wages & Benefits. This will include supporting the period end, forecast, and common year planning processes. For each of these areas, the role is responsible for applying standard variance analysis techniques to generate insights on financial and operational performance and communicate these findings in a clear and concise manner to management. They will also be responsible for quantifying, analyzing, and communicating the financial benefits related to strategic initiatives impacting labour. For the common year planning process, this includes planning wage & benefit accounts on a by store and by period basis, ensuring all key assumptions are documented.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete period end close requirements for labour by validating completeness of payrolls processed and providing analysis, variance commentary, and management reporting.
- Support the preparation of the periodic productive labour forecast (hours and dollars), inclusive of providing insights on variances to Plan, Prior Forecast, and LY (using volume and rate concepts) and key metric results (e.g. productivity, wage rates).
- Support the intra period forecast by estimating current period trend of actual versus forecast and flag any material risk and opportunities.
- Report and track Relief Pharmacist Spend on a weekly and periodic basis and communicate to stakeholders.
- Support the periodic forecast for Sick + Stat, Store Administrator, Postal Labour, Benefits, and the FSM Incentive. Relate performance to the relevant cost driver and provide standard analytics and variance analysis, inclusive of commentary.
- Lead the Front Store Manager Incentive process by calculating entitlement by store, engaging the District Manager for approval at year end, supporting payment processing at the stores, and reconciling the balance sheet account after the payout is completed.
- Prepare the Wage & Benefit plan for each store by account and ensure that the key plan assumptions and initiatives are included.
- Consolidate large amounts of complex information into simple and easy to understand reports.
- Other Ad Hoc duites and project based work as assigned.
Skills and Experience:
- Advanced computer skills in Excel and MicroStrategy; working knowledge of macros an asset
- Strong attention to detail and an appreciation and acumen for having detailed checks and balances in place
- Must be able to provide sound analysis and comparisons with some guidance
- Adaptive and ability to prioritize work
- Strong sense of ownership to meet commitments and deadlines
- Communicates with clarity; verbally and written
- Demonstrates strong business acumen, career driven and keen to learn and contribute
- University degree in Business, Accounting, Commerce or related field
- CPA designation or progression towards a CPA designation is an asset
