Behaviour Consultant - Behavioural Support Ontario

The Behaviour Consultant will provide clinical assessment and treatment recommendations through a comprehensive behavioural approach. This role will require the candidate to work within Long Term Care Home setting, design, implement and monitor behaviour intervention programs that augment the individual’s care plan. The behaviour consultant will also develop, implement, and supervise the training of mediators, individually or in groups in the principles of procedures of behaviour management, as well as develop, implement, and facilitate the evaluation of on-going education in Applied Behaviour Analysis to Long Term Care Home staff members, direct care providers, community partners and family members. This candidate will act as a liaison and work collaboratively with all health providers involved in the individuals circle of care, including leading monthly clinical rounds.

What must you have?

  • Undergraduate Degree in Psychology and related experience or equivalent
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and a vehicle and be able to travel throughout Ontario Health Central Region (e.g., York Region, North York Toronto, South Simcoe County).

What else do you bring?

  • Current clinical experience and knowledge of behaviour therapy as it applies to the areas of older adults, and knowledge/skill working with individuals with various types of dementia, delirium, mental health, addictions, other neurological conditions, and those who experience an acute behavioural change
  • Experience supporting older adults in a community, supported living and/or long-term care setting
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to provide clinical training and support to LTCH staff, RPNs, PSWs and other care team members.
  • Designs a behavioural intervention plan through a comprehensive behavioural approach for individuals living in LTC, engages in data collection, documentation, oversees implementation, monitoring and program evaluations.
  • Ability to provide mediator training (i.e., coaching and training) of caregivers in Long Term Care Homes and other care team members, including family members.
  • Liaise and collaborate with external specialty teams and resources Organize and lead monthly clinical rounds
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Proven attendance record.
  • Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the job, including carrying a caseload, conducting comprehensive behaviour and intake assessments, and Other required duties as assigned by BSO Coordinator/Manager
