World Class Tier One Auto Supplier and Technology Mobility Company is looking to hire an in-house Labour and Employment Counsel for its Canadian operations. This position is responsible for dealing with a variety of employment and labour-related legal matters, including helping the Company comply with a broad range of legal requirements, providing strategic legal advice on various business and human resources initiatives, managing litigation files including civil litigation, human rights matters, and cases before the Ontario Labour Relations Board, leading labour negotiations with trade unions, managing investigations and workplace grievance processes, as well as providing legal training to Divisions/Groups.
Candidates should have relevant experience in a law firm or in-house corporate environment, including practice before provincial courts and administrative agencies, as well as a thorough understanding of labour, employment, human rights, occupational health and safety, workers compensation, and privacy laws.
- Provide daily strategic legal and business advice on a broad range of human resources and people-related matters.
- Handle employment and labour law issues, including recruitment, employment contracts, terminations and restructurings, human rights, compliance, mergers and acquisition work, as well as policy drafting and interpretation.
- Represent the Company in employment related litigation and administrative proceedings.
- Collaborate with legal counsel and internal stakeholders to proactively manage employment-related claims.
- Advise on occupational health & safety, compensation and benefit, worker’s compensation and privacy law related matters.
- Develop training programs, lead collective bargaining negotiations, and draft employment policies and handbooks.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience.
- Law degree and admission to practice law in Ontario, with membership in the Law Society of Ontario.
- Trial work, collective bargaining, and union management skills are advantageous.
- Experience advising manufacturing operations is an asset.
- Strong communication skills for effective advocacy in a non-technical manner.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with good business judgment and organizational abilities.
- Self-confidence, authenticity, positive attitude, sense of humour and a genuine care and concern for the people you serve.
- Willingness to provide support on manufacturing and engineering floors.
- Valid driver’s license, eligibility to work in the province of Ontario, and eligibility to travel both within and outside of Canada, where required.
- Candidates will be required to complete a Criminal Records Check, and if deemed necessary, a Credit Check as part of the candidate selection process.
