Director, Bank Fraud Strategy

The Director, Fraud Strategy is an experienced leader in fraud prevention and detection efforts. As a member of the Strategy, Governance and Controls team, this role is responsible for the fraud strategy for the bank through the analysis of fraud trends, the development of mitigation strategies and deployment of creative solutions to effectively manage fraud losses and while supporting business growth. The successful candidate will partner with our Fraud Operations team to execute the strategy.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Implement Fraud Strategies: Design and execute comprehensive fraud prevention, detection, and mitigation strategies across all areas of the organization. Create and maintain the strategy and roadmap.

  • Analyze and Monitor Fraud Risks: Continuously assess and monitor fraud risks, implementing proactive measures to address vulnerabilities.

  • Support Fraud Investigations: Assist 1A/2A partners in root cause analysis to identify and control gaps.

  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including legal, compliance, and law enforcement agencies, to coordinate fraud prevention efforts.

  • Train and Educate Staff: Provide training and education to staff on fraud awareness, prevention techniques, and reporting procedures.

  • Report to Senior Management: Prepare and present detailed reports on fraud incidents, trends, and mitigation efforts to senior management and the board of directors.

  • Stay Current on Fraud Trends: Keep abreast of industry best practices and emerging trends in fraud risk management.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field.

  • A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CFE, CPA) are highly desirable.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in fraud risk management, including a proven track record of developing and implementing successful fraud prevention strategies.

  • Strong Preference for Retail Banking Experience across both lending and deposit products.

  • Deep knowledge of fraud detection methodologies, investigative techniques, and relevant regulatory requirements. Sound knowledge of fraud risk methodologies, risk assessment, risk monitoring, control design and control effectiveness assessments

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and identify trends.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present findings and recommendations to senior management.

  • High ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining the highest level of integrity and confidentiality.

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, envision long-term outcomes, and develop comprehensive plans to achieve organizational goals.

Salary range is expected to be between

$103,050.00 CAD - $185,490.00 CAD
