Description
The US and Group Functions Segment Audit Coordination and Internal Controls Center of Excellence (CCOE) group within North America is seeking a Manager, SOX Controls. This group provides our business partners with expertise in the design and testing of controls and collaborates with Audit Services and external audit to ensure that the audits of the Company’s Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) and Model Audit Rule (MAR) controls and financial statements go smoothly. In addition, this group provides centralized support of the US Segment control environment, including the insurance and annuity operational reporting, IFRS actuarial reporting, NAIC actuarial reporting and Accounting Shared Service Centers.
This team is also critical in a Company-wide initiative to reduce the SOX/MAR testing effort across the US Segment and in developing best practices in internal controls for the benefits of all process owners.
Position Responsibilities:
Build effective relationships with Insurance operational leads, business unit/shared service actuaries, Audit Services, external auditors, and accounting shared service providers.
Compile operational quality assurance on a quarterly basis for review by key actuarial team members and compile SOX/MAR control walkthrough documentation to external audit standards.
Manage SOX/MAR walkthroughs and quarterly/annual audits for the assigned business area/shared service, monitor progress, respond to audit inquiries, and provide regular status reports to the Senior Director, Audit Services, and external audit.
Assist in the assessment and review of the adequacy of controls and any deficiencies within the business area/shared service’s actuarial framework.
Collaborate with Audit Services to share best practices, maximize resource efficiency, and coordinate work to support external auditors.
Present findings and recommendations to business owners and the Controls Director, design risk management solutions, drive continuous improvement in controls, maintain responsiveness to auditors, and explore cross-utilization opportunities with the US Finance Segment.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent work experience
Minimum of 5 - 7 years accounting experience
Working knowledge of SOX, MAR, and IFRS/NAIC accounting guidelines are a plus.
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence management at various levels of the organization.
Detailed oriented with strong organization and project management skills. Excellent customer focus and a commitment to quality while still meeting deadlines.
Ability to effectively communicate ideas and recommendations orally and in writing, while considering the viewpoint of others.
Strong analytical and inquiry skills to understand operational and valuation processes and controls.
Self-motivated, ability to work independently and with teams at the Boston & Toronto locations.
Strong computer skills and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
CPA preferred

Salary range is expected to be between

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
