Under the responsibility of the Unit Manager, the position holder provides technical expertise and plays a key role in improving processes and equipment (modernization). Responsible for investment projects and major maintenance projects concerning equipment, utilities and buildings.

Main tasks and responsibilities of the position:

  • Develops a clear business need for capital expenditure (CapEx) projects or major plant maintenance projects with the support of the department head. Projects can affect health / safety / environment, efficiency, modernization of facilities, introduction of new products, cost reduction, etc.
  • Prepares and requests quotes
  • Coordinates execution activities with the sectors concerned
  • Develops and presents periodic reports on project progress
  • Is responsible for providing the analysis of options and the recommended solution for the project in compliance with the standards and norms of the Mapei Group
  • Develops and implements a clear project implementation plan including the schedule and cost estimate and ensures compliance with these elements
  • Determines the team structure necessary for the project, supports the stakeholders and identifies the services required by consultants and contractors, their selection and the supervision of their work
  • Complies with municipal, provincial, federal regulations, company policies, applicable procedures and work instructions
  • Interprets and / or writes plans, specifications, standards and technical documentation
  • Provides technical support to operations employees.
  • Plans and coordinates the performance review of completed projects to ensure the proper execution of the contract specifications
  • Supervises contractors (design, engineering, labor, construction, etc.) by ensuring compliance with the specifications of the tender and with all HSE policies when it is on a site
  • Any other related tasks

Requested skills

  • Bachelor in Mechanical or Electrical engineering with 5 to 7 years of experience in the manufacturing sector or a combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in either BC or Alberta
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Autocad
  • Can read electrical, mechanical and building plans
  • Knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical maintenance
  • Technical problems resolution skills
  • Leadership
  • Sense of planning and organization, time and priority management
  • Capacity to challenge situation or people and can work under pressure
  • Good communication skills and professional judgment
