Sanitation Manager

The Opportunity: Reporting to the Operations Leader, the Sanitation Manager will be responsible for controlling the cleaning and sanitation of equipment in the plant. They will guide and direct both sanitation supervisors and hourly employees and will audit the effectiveness of all sanitation activity on a daily basis. This position is fully committed to the adoption and implementation of Food Safety and Quality This includes the provision of adequate resources (time, people and financial), effective communication, systems review, and actions taken to effect continual improvement.

  • Provide leadership to build and develop the team within Sanitation department.
  • Direct, monitor and control the responsibilities of the Sanitation department.
  • Will provide overall compliance to health and safety protocols in conjunction with Maple Leaf Foods Policies, related legislation and the Collective Agreement including HACCP, Workplace Health & Safety Act, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Company Quality Control Standards and Sanitation practices.
  • Provide leadership to develop capable and effective employees and motivate them to embrace the Leadership Edge values and behaviors.
  • Accountable for the material costs and inventory related to the Sanitation department.
  • This role is responsible for reporting and managing costs related to performance, quality, Labour utilization, yield, department inventory requirements, OCI targets, and work schedules.
  • Responsible for participating with the SLT to support and enhance the culture of the plant; building a strong bias for action and creating highly performance driven teams.
  • Provides leadership to ensure optimal quality standards, and that capital equipment is properly maintained to ensure trouble-free and on-time manufacturing.
  • Continuously improve our operating (financial and process) results and efficiencies while meeting customer expectations and minimizing waste.
  • Communicating Company, Department, Team and individual expectations.
  • Conduct department meetings as needed with direct and indirect reports to share Plant and Company directives.
  • Ensuring accountability and responsibility is understood for each team member, managing performance when there are deficiencies.
  • Provide accurate, on-time and fact-based solutions to manufacturing issues and processes that impact Sanitation.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement process within the department by using six-sigma methodology.
  • Ensure employee safety and compliance to the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Ensure Quality Compliance with all HACCP procedures.
What Youll Bring:
  • Post-secondary education.
  • Multiple years of management experience in a unionized, manufacturing environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills, independent thinking, strong organizational and planning abilities and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Ability to work as a team with all functional areas to support a common goal.
