The Opportunity: Reporting to the Head of Asset Management and Reliability, this role is part of the Asset Reliability Group (ARG) at Maple Leaf Foods. The ARG is responsible for manufacturing reliability and maturity of the Maple Leaf network of facilities across Canada and US. The team develops and executes strategies for reliability, asset management, and maintenance to achieve world-class performance.

This role advances plant-level asset reliability (AR) programs, focusing on site reliability, MRO management, and enhancing plant maintenance maturity. Goals include reducing mechanical/electrical downtime, optimizing maintenance costs, minimizing safety risks, and extending asset lifecycles. The incumbent leads a team of asset reliability specialists.

This highly visible position requires a strong customer focus and involves frequent interactions, negotiations, presentations, and direct engagement with various stakeholders at plants and corporate including plant maintenance managers, plant managers, vice presidents, and leaders in cross-functional groups (e.g., Information Solutions, Engineering, Operations Excellence, Procurement, Food Safety, Sanitation, and Finance).

Asset reliability experience is a must have, along with strong independent judgment, hands-on plant experience, analytical skills, large-scale project management, effective decision-making, stakeholder management, and excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Lead and manage the deployment and sustainment of asset reliability programs at the plant level, collaborating with cross-functional teams, while coaching maintenance staff, tracking progress, and ensuring effective implementation and controls.
  • Support plant maintenance teams in identifying reliability risks and bad actors to reduce mechanical and electrical downtime, establish action plans, monitor progress, and provide execution support.
  • Own the MRO optimization program and coaching; develop and implement best practices, including tools and process improvements along with control plans to sustain results.
  • Conduct plant maintenance maturity assessments, guide improvement steps, assist in creating and executing gap-closure action plans, and track and report monthly progress.
  • Lead a team of asset reliability specialists, providing coaching and guidance to advance their development
  • Deliver on the ARG annual plan, long-term strategic roadmap, targets, and priorities.
  • Oversee and report on strategic asset reliability projects, lead analytics, and communicate insights to key stakeholders
  • Acts as a subject matter expert in balancing risks and costs for equipment reliability, utilizing preventive maintenance optimization and KPIs.
  • Provide reliability due diligence inputs for new builds, mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
  • Stay informed of emerging trends and innovations in reliability engineering and asset management
  • Perform other related activities as assigned
What Youll Bring: Must-have:
  • University degree in a technical, engineering, or STEM fields
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in asset reliability, maintenance, or operational excellence roles in fast-paced manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Technical consulting or experience in client-facing or site support roles.
  • Experience managing corporate-level projects and multi-site/plant deployment of asset reliability initiatives with complex change management.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills, and ability to coach/develop a high-performing team.
  • Knowledge of asset reliability principles, methodologies, and best practices (e.g., RCM, FMEA, RCA)
  • Knowledge of MRO inventory management, monitoring, optimization, and best practices
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), with a preference for SAP
  • Proactive, results-oriented, organized, and proficient at managing multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Must thrive on working with people and being service and customer oriented.
  • Advanced software skills in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Visio
Nice-to-have:
  • Professional Engineering Association Membership (P.Eng.); Six Sigma training and/or MBA
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety and health & safety requirements
  • Familiarity with reporting and analytical platforms, such as Power BI, and financial modeling
  • Continuous improvement mindset, critical thinker challenging the status quo, and passionate about operational excellence
