SUMMARY: 
This position is responsible for providing day to day leadership of the Health and Safety Claims Department and for developing and implementing procedures and strategies to improve both claims management and rehabilitation programs, in order to reduce the Company’s Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claim costs.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for managing and administering the Workers' Compensation Program
- Establishes and monitors department goals and objectives with Director
- Manages a team of Return to Work Specialists and Claims Coordinators
- Ensures compliance with applicable legislation as well as Company policies
- Evaluates and strategizes work process improvements and effective usage of information systems in order to improve customer service
- Manages departmental responsibilities regarding WSIB legislation, Rate Framework program, Human Rights legislation
- Monitors and makes recommendations regarding Company’s position under the WSIB’s Rate Framework program. Acts as the subject matter expert on WSIB policy, legislation, and Rate Framework program
- Manages difficult cases (prolonged cases, no return to work date and high cost); Works with WSIB, consulting agencies and health care providers to bring about positive financial and workplace solutions
- Monitors the monthly WSIB accident cost statements for accuracy
- Reviews and takes appropriate actions pertaining to all WSIB correspondence
- Reviews the WSIB Compass report to review trends and lost time
- Reviews all pending appeals and makes recommendation on how Company should proceed with appeal and determines investigations to be made prior to appeal.
- Prepares and presents appeals at WSIB and WSIAT (Workplace Safety and Insurance Tribunal).
- Manages the integrity and quality of the information stored in the claims management system (Parklane).
- Colaborates with Health and Safety Managers to reduce incidents.


QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor degree in Human Resources and/or Health & Safety 
- Certificate in Disability Management preferred
- Registered Paralegal with the Law Society of Ontario preferred
- 3 – 5 years of relevant experience
- Prior supervisory experience
- Advanced knowledge of the WSIB policy, Worker's Compensation Act, Duty to Accommodate Human Rights Legislation and AODA legislation
- General H.R. with specific knowledge of health and safety legislation and WSIB Act
- Advanced knowledge of Parklane or equivalent claims management software system
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Proficiency with information systems
- Some travel required to attend meetings or appeals at WSIB or WSIAT’s office
