A career as a Legal Counsel in the Advisory Services team of Legal Affairs - National Bank Financial means working on a wide range of exciting mandates within an enthusiastic and collegial team.
This position is available at two levels: Senior Legal Counsel and Legal Counsel.
The title and hierarchical level will be determined based on your experience and expertise.
These roles will support the significant growth of business activities within the Financial Markets and Wealth Management business units and subsidiaries. These activities involve various financial services provided to both institutional and individual clients, including securities brokerage, negotiation and drafting of strategic commercial contracts, portfolio management, and capital markets activities (such as investment banking and distribution). Advisory Services may also occasionally provide counsel to senior management on strategic initiatives, including acquisitions.
Your Role:
- Act as legal counsel and risk manager for business units regarding their activities and strategies, particularly in securities trading and issuance regulations (brokerage and distribution), implementation of commercial, transactional, corporate, financing, procurement, reorganization, or acquisition projects, establishment of partnerships, corporate governance, and matters related to technology and information security.
- Handle complex cases involving significant strategic and reputational issues.
- Analyze, draft, and negotiate contracts and transactions.
- Anticipate and align legal/regulatory requirements with business realities and imperatives.
- Support special projects by providing targeted expertise.
- Interact and engage with various organizations or external advisors.
- In addition to working on the Canadian market, occasionally participate in the company's international activities.

As part of the National Bank Financial Legal Affairs sector, you will be part of a dynamic team of about thirty specialists and report to the Vice President of Advisory Services, Legal Affairs, Financial Markets, and Wealth Management. Basic requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in law.
- Relevant experience: Senior Legal Counsel (more than 10 years); Legal Counsel (2 to 5 years).
- Member of the Quebec Bar.
- Desired knowledge of securities law and general commercial law.
- Interest in finance and investment.
- Analytical and drafting skills to negotiate complex strategic agreements.
- Entrepreneurial spirit, strategic approach, and results-oriented leadership.
