The Montreal Community Legal Centre (Legal Aid) is looking for a legal secretary for a temporary position at the Maisonneuve-Mercier Legal Aid Office, located at 5100 Rue Sherbrooke East in Montreal.

For over 50 years, we have been providing legal aid to residents of Montreal and Laval. We coordinate the activities of twelve offices and employ around 150 lawyers and 172 staff members. Every day, our mission is to inform and assist citizens in resolving their legal issues.

Your responsibilities:

  • Prepare legal documents and procedures in collaboration with lawyers;
  • Write and process correspondence;
  • Inform clients of relevant aspects related to their files;
  • Receive, filter, and redirect phone calls;
  • Manage and update the lawyers' agenda;
  • Enter and transcribe data related to legal aid applications;
  • Open, organize, and archive client files;
  • Keep the trust account up to date;
  • Administer oaths for clients, witnesses, and other parties;
  • Replace the receptionist as needed.

Your qualifications:

  • One year of relevant experience in legal secretary work or specialized legal secretary training;
  • Excellent command of French (spoken and written);
  • Functional English (ability to communicate with anglophone or allophone clients);
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools (Word, Outlook, Teams);
  • Excellent organizational skills and effective priority management;
  • Ability to manage stress and work in a high-volume environment;
  • Strong customer service skills.

Working conditions:

  • Stable schedule of 35 hours per week;
  • Annual salary of $43,166 to $53,096.
