Job Description

GENERAL FUNCTION

The Manager, Corporate Accounting is responsible for oversite and management of the corporate accounting department. This position will be a critical member of the global corporate accounting team in the management of the month-end close, balance sheet account reconciliations, maintaining internal controls, adherence to GAAP, assist with external auditor coordination, and interface with business partners including US and Canadian operations, FP&A, Tax, Treasury and other departments. This position will also be responsible for corporate reporting and analytics, escheatment, insurance renewals, leading special projects, implementation of new accounting requirements and providing guidance of complicated transactions and a variety of duties within the Controllership group.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the daily operations of onshore and offshore HQ accounting department. This includes:
    • Accruals, expenses, intercompany accounting, lease accounting, escheatment, insurance renewals, foreign exchange gain/loss analytics and reporting
  • Ensure the integrity of accounting information through timely journal entry preparation, journal entry review, variance analyses and resolution of account variances
  • Establish/enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles
  • Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled and reviewed timely
  • Involvement with fixed assets and projects subledger, advising on questions associated to related policies and procedures
  • Respond to questions from other internal departments as well as liaising with select external parties
  • Perform light accounting topics research
  • Coordination with FP&A, Tax, Treasury and IT departments as it relates to month-end close and accounting projects
  • Point of contact on managing external audits and preparing audit support
  • Assist with assessing and monitoring internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas
  • Identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements towards a quicker month-end close while maintaining accounting integrity
  • Lead or coordinate accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the accounting and finance team and/or other departments
  • Communication of monthly results to internal teams

Management Accountabilities

  • Staff training, development, technical coaching, for all team members
  • Accountable for recruitment and retention of all team members
  • Sets team goals and review achievements on a monthly basis
  • Provide coaching and direction on work issues as required
  • Maintain a positive working relationship when addressing problems and providing solutions

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • CPA required

EXPERIENCE

  • 6-8 years general accounting experience
  • Proficient with US GAAP and internal controls
  • Prior supervisory/management experience is preferred
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting concepts, including practical experience
  • Big 4 or regional accounting firm experience preferred
  • Familiarity with general tax concepts, foreign currency transactions, and securitized debt structures a plus

  • Strong organization, planning and project management skills; ability to prioritize tasks for self and team to meet requirements and deadlines
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to drive and motivate team to achieve results
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to present financial concepts to a wide array of audiences
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable with change and fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with different levels of employees
  • Must be able to execute assignments and set direction rather than require direction
  • Prior experience with Oracle Fusion, Hyperion Financial Management and Tableau reporting experience a plus
