There are two (2) positions available on a 5x5x4 schedule

Dimensions

Directly manage the services and planning of the maintenance activities for the surface operations. Reports to the Surface Mobile Maintenance Superintendent. Directly Supervise the Lubeperson, Labourers, Tire technicians, Apprentices and Mechanics. Liaise with the Maintenance Planner, Scheduler and Clerk.

Purpose

To organize, co-ordinate and direct maintenance activities, ensuring that the work is performed in the safest and most effective manner by managing all resources towards complying to the maintenance schedules with the least negative impact to the production plan.

Essential Duties
  • Engage in strategic planning and providing guidance and leadership to the Open Pit maintenance team.
  • Manage maintenance shop and employees.
  • Ensure the health and safety of the crews.
  • Promote good housekeeping practices.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, identify risks and hazards and take corrective measures.
  • Practice fatality risk management and the 5-point safety system daily.
  • Conduct critical control verifications.
  • Practice and promote Newmont’s safety programs in conjunction with the IRS.
  • Ensure that the occupational health and safety act, Government acts and regulations and company policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Coordinate and ensure production targets are met as forecasted, within budget and safety parameters.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures as required.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of support projects.
  • Work closely with SAP, open and close work orders, search and charge out warehouse stock.
  • Indirectly approves purchasing decisions for all mobile equipment.
  • Provide monthly accruals for department.
  • Work closely with Operations team to effectively schedule maintenance.
  • Work closely with Maintenance planner/scheduler, pit supervisors and warehousing to ensure all maintenance and production goals are achieved.
  • Complete time entry when required.
  • Ensure crews receive training / accreditation in the jobs they are expected to perform.
  • Provide clear expectations of the production levels expected.
  • Provide coaching and performance management of employees.
  • Conduct job observations and provide employees with feedback on their performance.
Training & Experience
  • Certified Tradesperson or a holder of a Maintenance Technician/Technologist Certificate with work experiences.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in maintenance environment.
  • Supervisory/Lead hand experience is considered an asset.
  • Ability to interpret electrical & hydraulic schematics and offer sound technical expertise with regards to maintenance issues.
  • A strong working knowledge of mining equipment, maintenance procedures and legislative requirements as it relates to mining equipment and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Require good troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead others.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is considered an asset.
