Dimensions

This position will supervise the front line supervisors of the Dome Mill electrical/instrumentation department. They will be reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent.

Purpose
  • Ensure the safe and efficient maintenance of assets for the mill, crushing plants, and tailing/effluent treatment facilities to meet safety, production, cost, and availability targets while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Organize, coordinate, and direct electrical maintenance activities to minimize impact on production schedules.
  • Source key equipment and ensure compatibility with existing systems.
  • Design and install electrical equipment and cabling to maintain electrical supply to all equipment.
  • Manage and implement a preventative maintenance program, following Asset Management guidelines and ensuring reliability-centered maintenance strategies.
  • Communicate plans and updates to affected departments.

Safety and Sustainability Expectations

  • Ensure all electrical maintenance employees are trained and comply with PGM Health and Safety policies and the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Monitor safety performance and ensure compliance with company, federal, provincial, and municipal standards.
  • Promote the values of fatality risk management, ensuring employees receive feedback on safety issues and performance.
  • Ensure the tailing disposal and effluent treatment facilities comply with environmental regulations.
  • Support departments on safety, production, and asset management issues, ensuring safety systems are adhered to (e.g., 5-pt safety system, safety meetings).
  • Ensure equipment is CSA and ESA approved and comply with ESA Z462 Arc Flash requirements.
Essential Duties

Safety Compliance

  • Develop and improve safety performance for all employees under responsibility.
  • Respond to emergency situations to ensure personnel safety and minimize production or cost impact.
  • Maintain compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Promote safety programs, incident reporting, and timely corrective actions.
  • Attend crew safety meetings and participate in safety huddles.
  • Ensure contractors and maintenance staff are properly trained and inducted.
  • Maintain positive relationships with external agencies (e.g., MOL, MOE, ESA).

Personnel Management

  • Provide leadership and direction to the electrical team.
  • Hold meetings to update employees on safety, production, maintenance, and performance KPIs.
  • Participate in hiring and training processes to ensure employees meet job requirements.
  • Coordinate with the training department to ensure personnel receive required training and certifications.

Production/KPIs

  • Collaborate with Mill Operations to ensure maintenance activities enhance mining efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Work closely with Mill and Metallurgical coordinators to plan and execute work.
  • Create work orders and track parts for both planned and unplanned jobs.
  • Assist in budget preparation and generate monthly reports on costs and completed work.
  • Optimize repair schedules and implement planning systems to improve efficiency.
  • Maintain asset history and provide input for operational and safety decisions.
  • Work on enhancement projects and initiatives to improve safety, equipment life, and performance.
  • Maintain the tailing disposal and effluent treatment facilities for compliance with environmental regulations.
Training & Experience
  • Valid Trades Certificate required.
  • Degree, Technical Diploma, or equivalent work experience and/or training.
  • Minimum 5 years in a supervisory role.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in asset management and maintenance practices, surface/underground electrical equipment maintenance related experience.
  • PLC, fiber optics, remote control systems, Power distribution and Metering.
  • Communications and Networking.
  • High Voltage and Low voltage electrical systems.
  • A solid background in the maintenance, operation and optimization of crushing and grinding plants, process control, tailing management, and effluent treatment.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to motivate others and initiate change that yields positive results in safety, the environment, production, and cost management in the crusher/mill areas.
  • A solid knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants is essential.
  • Must have a practical understanding and the ability to interpret electrical diagrams as they relate to high & low voltage power distributions, P.L.C’s, radio remote controls, leaky feeder systems, motors (including synchronous), and DC drives (locomotives & Hoist). Must have the experience to offer sound technical expertise with regards to maintenance issues with any of these systems.
  • A strong working knowledge of mining equipment, electrical maintenance procedures, and legislative requirements as it relates to mining equipment, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Ontario Electrical code and Electrical Safety Authority.

  • The schedule is 5x2, Monday to Friday
