About this role

What will you be responsible for?

As the Structural Lead, you will oversee the Structural Discipline throughout the entire project lifecycle, ensuring that the design meets all project requirements by delivering a solution that is safe, operable, and constructible. Your primary role will be to provide expert input into the structural design generated by our business partners. You will collaborate closely with the broader project team, including project management, procurement, project controls, and construction, while also engaging key stakeholders such as engineering partners, site operations, and Newmont's functional teams.

  • Drive continuous improvement, maintaining high technical standards to maximize value and minimize risk.
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership, managing assigned projects in line with sound engineering practices.
  • Make critical design decisions related to projects, including material and equipment selection.
  • Oversee, review, and monitor activities to ensure adherence to schedules while addressing technical challenges during implementation.
  • Utilize your experience with digital project delivery using 3D tools to streamline processes.
  • Bring specialized experience in materials handling systems and process plant design.
  • Optimize structural performance through effective asset management, reliability, project engineering, and work management guidance.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with site operations and construction teams (the customers) to manage project engineering delivery.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timely completion of all reports.
  • Promote effective knowledge and data management across the team.
  • Provide technical audits, reviews, and expert advice as needed.
  • Stay informed on the latest developments in structural engineering and underground mining, both internally and externally.
  • Ensure work is conducted using appropriate risk assessment and risk management strategies in line with safety standards and frameworks, fostering a culture focused on minimizing employee risk and harm.
Your training, skills, and experience checklist:

Knowledge:

  • P.Eng certification in British Columbia (or eligibility for transfer from another Canadian province) is essential.
  • Degree in structural engineering with qualifications relevant to a lead position.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5-10 years of supervisory experience in a large-scale operation.
  • Strong project management skills developed over at least 15 years of practical and project experience.
  • Prior experience using the Aconex Document Management system is considered an asset.
  • Experience working at a remote work site is considered an asset.
  • Experience in the Mining Industry is preferred

Skills and Abilities:

  • Effective problem-solving skills with a results-oriented approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the latest design software, e.g., 3D CAD software.
Working Conditions
  • The position will be primarily based in Vancouver, with occasional travel to the site (Red Chris Site).

The expected salary range for this role is CAD $ $118,240 - $140,410. This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
