Purpose

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Mobile Maintenance Technical Trainer to join our Red Chris Mine in Northwest British Columbia with a competitive base salary between $110,000.00 - $120,000.00 dependant on experience, skills, and qualifications.
The mobile Maintenance Trainer develops and delivers competency-based training programs, focusing primarily on Mobile Maintenance and occasional support for Fixed Plant maintenance. Reporting to the Training Lead, the trainer ensures all training aligns with Newmont’s safety, operational, legal, and apprenticeship standards.
This role emphasizes teamwork, psychological safety, and continuous learning. The trainer fosters positive relationships and supports collaborative problem-solving and process improvement across the organization. A key responsibility is mentoring apprentices through coaching, feedback, and development planning to achieve Red Seal certification. The trainer works closely with the Training Lead, supervisors, and stakeholders to align programs with operational needs and career growth goals.
Additional duties include facilitating equipment and safety courses, maintaining certifications, and ensuring compliance with operational standards. Flexibility is essential, as the trainer may assist with other Training and Development initiatives, contributing to Newmont’s commitment to learning and excellence

Essential Duties
  • Develop and deliver competency-based training programs, including Verification of Competency (VOC) assessments, ensuring alignment with operational and safety standards.
  • Facilitate equipment-specific and safety courses (e.g., skid steer, loader, forklift) and ensure certifications are current to meet compliance needs.
  • Maintain Train-the-Trainer certifications for safety and equipment programs (e.g., fall protection, confined spaces, skid steer, loaders), ensuring compliance with regular updates and operational relevance.
  • Collaborate with the Training Lead on apprenticeship program development, aligning with Red Seal standards and operational requirements.
  • Mentor apprentices with coaching, feedback, and development plans to support progress toward certification and long-term success.
  • Monitor apprenticeship progress in SAP SuccessFactors LMS, ensuring timely completion of required hours, coursework, and competencies.
  • Provide training support for Fixed Plant operations as needed, ensuring alignment with safety and operational objectives.
  • Work with supervisors and the Training Lead to allocate resources effectively across operations.
  • Offer guidance on SOP development while ensuring operational accountability rests with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Contribute to team initiatives and operational projects, promoting a collaborative and high-performance environment.
Essential Duties continued
  • Maintain accurate training records, VOC documentation, and apprenticeship data within SAP SuccessFactors LMS for compliance.
  • Track and report KPIs and compliance metrics, ensuring alignment with operational goals and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Promote safety leadership by modelling safe behaviours and embedding protocols in training activities.
  • Identify risks and propose practical solutions for training challenges and operational needs.
  • Integrate innovative technologies like VR and simulation tools to enhance training delivery and outcomes.
  • Pursue continuous professional development, remaining open to feedback and learning opportunities.
  • Foster cultural competency by engaging respectfully with the Tahltan Nation and diverse team
Training & Experience
  • Red Seal Trade Certification - Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (required).
  • Mine Supervisor Certification (or equivalent, required or must be obtained within a specified timeframe).
  • 10+ years of hands-on maintenance experience, primarily with mobile equipment, with some exposure to fixed plant systems.
  • Proven experience in delivering technical training within mining or heavy industrial environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams) and SAP SuccessFactors LMS.
  • Familiarity with Power BI or similar tools for KPI tracking and compliance reporting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor, coach, and develop apprentices effectively.
  • Knowledge of mining regulations, safety standards, and industry-relevant legislation.
  • Project management skills to efficiently plan, coordinate, and report on training activities.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with VR and simulation-based learning tools.
  • Ability to work in the field for extended periods, focusing on front-line training and assessments.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license for site mobility.
