This position reports directly to the Metallurgy Superintendent.
The purpose of this position is to provide project and operational support for the metallurgical group at Newmont Porcupine through effective collection and analysis of testwork and plant metallurgical and operating data. The position will also be responsible for proposing, executing, and/or managing the metallurgical aspects of projects aimed at improving the overall efficiency of processing operations, focusing on continuous improvement initiatives. The person must work effectively and efficiently with other departments.
- Scoping, definition, and specification of metallurgical and process plant requirements
- Working with operational personnel to improve metallurgical costs and efficiencies
- Compile capital and operating cost estimates
- Project budgeting
- Technical report writing
- Understanding and control of project risks
- Updating of stakeholders and communicating findings
- Providing processing expertise to various departments and project teams involved in projects
- Create scopes and manage design work for required changes
- Organize work plans, prioritize, and administer processes and procedures to ensure efficient use of time and resources
- Direct operator activities for circuit checks and accurately measure key milling parameters
- Design, manage, and interpret appropriate testwork programs to support projects
- Mass balance calculations
- Design and develop metallurgical flowsheets
- Establish processing design criteria
- Create and analyze databases to gather information and improve performance and production and reduce costs
- Gather information and perform analysis to assist in determining the budget and plan for mill metallurgical needs
- Research and recommend physical and chemical methods to separate minerals and metals from their ores
- Direct sampling from various stages of processing for laboratory analysis and testing
- Other duties as required
- University degree in mineral processing or Chemical Engineering or a 3 year Diploma in Metallurgical Technology.
- 3-5 years of experience in a minerals processing environment
- Ability to lead multi-disciplinary project teams
- Gold hydrometallurgical experience.
- Rod and Ball mill operational experience.
- CIP operational experience.
- Cyanide detoxification technology.
- Gold gravity extraction experience.
- Ability to use in-house computer systems including Microsoft Office suite and the PI system
- Metallurgical optimization and evaluation skills
- Contract management skills
The schedule is 4x3. As such if you do not live in the area, we will require relocation.
