Purpose

Reporting to the Senior Project Metallurgist, the Project Metallurgist will be responsible for identifying and rapidly executing projects to improve the overall performance of the mill, including production of coarse sand. They will be responsible for the management of projects from a metallurgical perspective, ensuring deadlines are met and operations are engaged throughout the project. They will provide operational and technical support to the Operations group, while maintaining a safety, behaviour and cost commitment consistent with the Newmont Values.

We are seeking an individual for a Fly-In, Fly-Out opportunity working on a two-weeks-in, two-weeks-out rotation; With a competitive salary range of $109,000-129,000, dependent on experience, skills, and competencies with consideration to internal equity.

Essential Duties

Project Metallurgist duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Develops detailed understanding of the process flow sheets and operation of Red Chris flotation
  • circuit.
  • Analysis of plant production data with a view to identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Development of project schedules, including budgets, resourcing, project stakeholders, risk
  • assessments and key deliverables.
  • Valuation and prioritisation of projects according to budget, risk profile, timeline and strategic fit.
  • Execution of capital projects in compliance with the Newcrest-Red Chris JV projects framework.
  • An active involvement in processing plant commissioning tasks, providing robust product for the operating team and delivering on expected performance gains.
  • Maintain regular updates to Wave initiatives and provide project updates against milestones
  • Exhibit the NewSafe behaviours and actively undertake safety interactions out in the field
  • Actively look for an rectify hazards present in the field when onsite
  • Ensures that a management of change process is followed as part of all process changes.
  • Ensures that risk assessments, of the correct level, are completed at all study stages for engineering projects.
  • Attend required daily operational, metallurgical and safety meetings as required
  • Ensures all activities are carried out consistent with:
    • Safe working practices and individual competencies;
    • OHS legislation, the Company Safety Management System, and Environmental plans; and
    • Principles of total quality management and continuous improvement
Training & Experience

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing or Chemical engineering
  • Valid driver’s license - “N” class acceptable
  • 4+ years relevant industry experience

  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision once familiar with requirements

Technical Capabilities:

  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft office applications
  • Project management
  • Familiarity with Navisworks or AutoCAD preferred
  • Strong data analytic skills including modelling

The expected salary range for this role is CA$109,000 - 129,000. This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
