Purpose

• Support operations by coordinating the Safety Health guidance to all employees in all departments.
• Promote, coordinate and implement activities to improve and maintain high levels of safety and Training performance.
• Act as a resource for all of the workplace parties and an advocate of the Internal responsibility System (IRS).

Essential Duties

Prevention

• Oversee the inherent programs i.e. 5 Pt. Safety System, Safety Meetings, etc.
• Support development and reviewing job procedures.
• Monitor the functioning of the IRS and make recommendations for its improvement.
• Regularly audit or arrange for the audit of the elements of the health and safety system, and to suggest ways of improving them.
• Regularly audit and inspect the operation for compliance with the Act, Regulations and company policies /procedures.
• Report to Safety/Training and Security Manager, General Foreman, Frontline Supervisors, and Contractors on the safety and health status of the operation. Conduct monthly Supervisor safety meetings and provide updates on the departmental activities.
• Advise workers, supervisors and management personnel on technical safety & health matters.
• Act as a resource for all employees and the JH&SC.
• Advise trainers on the safety and health content of training courses.
• Liaise with other operations, WSN and similar resources to obtain up-to-date information on safety and health issues for the operation and the JH&SC.
• Provide management with statistical reports ..
• Participate in the JH&SC either as a member or a resource
• Attend crew safety meetings on a selective basis either as an observer or presenter.
• Supervise and support the medical support system with preventative programs and WSIB issues.

Safety Training

• Educate all levels of the organization about the IRS, and to actively promote it.
• Ensure that the Borden Gold induction training programs are administered to all new employees, contractors and visitors.

Emergency Preparedness

• Support all departments in developing and implementing emergency procedures.
• Maintain UG Mine Rescue program.
• Ensure an adequately trained compliment of U/G Mine Rescue personnel.

• Promote First Aid Training
• Liaise with emergency preparedness groups i.e. Ontario Mine Rescue, Municipal Fire Departments, Emergency Equipment Suppliers, etc.

Training & Experience
  • Minimum grade 12, technical diploma preferred.
  • Valid "G" Driver's License
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Mines & Mining Plants, surface and underground mine rescue training, WHMIS and Loss Control techniques.
  • Accreditation in the U/G Supervisory Common Core.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in underground operations.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in Occupational Health and Safety Systems Management.
  • Familiarity with the various Common Core programs that are administered through the Ministry of Colleges and Universities.
Working Conditions

This is a site based position supporting our Hoyle Pond location in Timmins, ON
The schedule is 4 days on 3 days off
