Our Red Chris Mine, located in the heart of Northern British Columbia on the traditional territory of the Tahltan Nation. Our Red Chris operation is now recruiting for the position of Senior Geologist with a competitive base salary between $109,650.00 - $148,350.00 dependant on experience, skills, and qualifications, with an additional short term incentive of 15% . The offered base salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills and competencies with consideration to internal equity.
We are seeking an individual for a Fly In, Fly Out opportunity working on a two weeks in, two weeks out rotation.
Technical
Demonstrates technical and conceptual excellence in geological knowledge, supports the team and plans to deliver agreed departmental and business goals to ensure the value of the business is maintained or improved:
- Responsible for planning and overseeing all production geology and grade control programs.
- Oversee blast hole sampling, assaying and analysis.
- Establish, document, and maintain a system for sampling, data analysis, interpretation, in-field direction, and record keeping in accordance with the ML/ARD Management Plan.
- Work collaboratively and proactively with the Operations and Technical teams to ensure efficient use of shared field resources, contractors, and personnel.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to the program team, including supervision of Geologists.
- Collects and interprets geological data from exploration programs, including diamond drilling, diamond core logging, surface mapping, geological sampling, processing, environmental and metallurgical sampling.
- Competent person providing structural geology expertise, and/or geochemical geology expertise.
- Ensures Open Pit group is provided with most current geological interpretations and that changes to interpretations are conveyed to the appropriate departments.
- Investigates improved techniques for ore/waste delineation and recovery.
- Assists with ore and waste rock management programs as directed.
- Inputs and ensures quality, accurate and up to date geological data is entered to geology databases.
- Drive data quality through regular process reviews, database validation and weekly and annual QAQC reviews.
- Provide technical inputs to build a strong geo-metallurgical framework, whilst contributing to geo-metallurgical projects.
- Update all 3D structural and lithological interpretations.
- Aiding in the communication of geological (structural, lithological, mineralogical) risk.
- Responsible for version control, record keeping, and processes for all geological data

- Communicates effectively and collaborates with cross shift geology team members.
- Creates opportunities for personnel to gain experience and for knowledge transfer, as part of a succession planning process for key technical roles.
- Communicates effectively to ensure all personnel understand relevant deliverables.
- Upholds and follows the Newmont values at all times ensuring a team-based culture between employees, departments and contractors is maintained.
- Leads and develops team members through mentoring, coaching, training and development of team members to continuously improve their knowledge, skills and relationship interactions.
- Provides effective and timely communication.
- Participates and approves risk management processes, e.g. JSEA and Fatality Risk Management, daily Pre start meetings.

- Ensures compliance with the Mines Act and applicable permits, regulations and site policies in the execution of assigned duties.
- Performs risk management audits, taking a proactive risk management approach to departmental tasks, i.e., recognizing, analyzing, and responding to ensure risks are managed in accordance with company requirements.
- Operates budget monitoring, ensures suitable cost controls are in place.
- Develops, progresses, and tracks specific cost reduction initiatives and activities.
- Manages change and risk through the application of appropriate assessment and quantification process to ensure that the business is not deliberately or inadvertently subjected to unnecessary operational, commercial, or legal risks.
- Monitors the effectiveness of the process for recording identified material risks in the Operations/Site Risk Register and in-line with Newcrest standards and requirements.
- Undertakes all business in adherence to the company Code of Conduct, Anti-Bribery and Corruption and Fraud prevention policies, procedures, and strategies.
Required and Desired Qualifications:
- Minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in geology, open pit, or underground mining operations.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or Earth Sciences or Bachelor of Engineering/Applied Science degree in Mining, Geological or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Registered P.Geo./P.Eng. with EGBC or able to register in B.C.
- Familiarity with relevant BC and federal legislation and regulations (e.g., WorksafeBC guidelines, Mines Act, Occupational Health and Safety Legislation) is desired.
- BC Mine Supervisor Certification or ability to achieve certification.
- Related experience in core descriptions, geological and geotechnical mapping and modeling in porphyry Copper-Gold systems.
- Related experience in bulk underground mining and an understanding of Project Management would be considered assets.
- Demonstrates people leadership skills, as well as critical and strategic thinking.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite of Products, Microsoft Teams, and One View reports.
- Experience with Vulcan, Deswik, and MineSight and/or other geological software considered a strong asset.
- Experience with Acquire, MS Excel, MS Teams, Sharepoint and SAP considered an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of accuracy.
- Strong multi-tasking and proven ability to manage competing priorities based on business demands.
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision once familiar with requirements.
- Self-motivated and takes initiative; proactively looks for ways to add value.
