Purpose

Reporting directly to TIA Senior Surveyor, the TIA Surveyor is responsible for providing technical and survey support for heavy civil earthworks projects under the Capital Projects, TIA Construction department. The Surveyor will work on projects related to tailings dam construction, cyclone sand production, and supporting infrastructure for the tailings impoundment area. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain skills in several technical support roles including digital 3D design, construction quality control and construction survey.

Our Red Chris TIA department is recruiting for a Surveyor, with a competitive annual salary between $86,000 - $99,000 with additional benefits and Travel Allowances provided. The offered base salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies, with additional consideration of internal equity. We are seeking an individual for a Fly-In, Fly-Out opportunity working on a two-weeks-in, two-weeks-out rotation.

Essential Duties

Safety and Sustainability

  • Promote and adhere to company safety, environmental, and sustainability policies
  • Ensure team members are authorized, qualified and competent to undertake the task(s); do not allow an inexperienced person to undertake tasks unsupervised
  • Ensure standard operating and safe work procedures are understood; enforcing compliance
  • Encourage a culture of reporting hazards, near misses, and incidents
  • Encourage a positive and inclusive work environment

Technical

  • Promote and participate in a safe work culture in accordance with Newmont policies and values.
  • Day to day field staking in accordance with project design using RTK GPS survey equipment.
  • Effectively communicates proper layout information to relevant parties in a timely manner.
  • Bathymetry surveys and drone photogrammetry, track and report material quantities and construction progress to plan.
  • 3D Design: Create and verify civil earthworks designs utilizing 3D modelling and GIS software
  • Record and maintain daily field notes of survey activities
  • Perform various aspects of construction survey tasks accurately and efficiently
  • Troubleshoot and maintain survey equipment & UAVs and ensure data is correct and updated.
  • Communicate with Design Engineers regarding project design

Training & Experience

Qualifications

  • Mining, Civil, Geometric education or other equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of mine or earth work surveying experience and sound understanding of survey principles.
  • Mining and/or heavy earthworks experience
  • Proficient with MS Office and managing data sets
  • Exposure to tailings dam design and/or tailings dam construction
  • Experience with Trimble R12 GPS equipment
  • Excellent people and communication skills
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts as required
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License required

Desirable experience:

  • Operating experience with DJI Phantom 4 Pro or Mavic 3 Enterprise
  • Advanced UAV license would is considered an asset
  • Leadership for Safety Excellence would be considered an asset
  • Software exposure to Mining-related 3D modelling software, such as MineSight
  • Experience with Trimble Business Center and Pix4D

The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.
