Description
As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the Occupational Therapist is to provide comprehensive assessments and treatment to persons with severe and chronic mental health concerns. This is done through the completion of psychosocial assessments, administration of diagnostic tests and observations, individual treatment planning, ongoing evaluation of client progress and goals, and integration of treatment recommendations within a case planning model. Provides occupational therapy intervention, consultation and acts as a professional resource to a diverse team. Acts as an external resource and provides consultation to other mental health and community service providers.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
- Bachelors Degree in Occupational Therapy required.
- Masters degree in Occupational Therapy preferred.
- Must be registered as a member of the Ontario College of Occupational Therapists.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 4 - 5 years experience in a mental health setting.
SKILLS
- Ability to work with persons with histories of substance abuse and mental illness and other co-occurring disorders in developing life roles, independence and balanced lifestyle through the establishment of therapeutic and supportive professional relationships.
- Must demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and knowledge of local resources.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to the class of vehicle operated.
- Computer literacy required
- French language skills are an asset
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Must provide own transportation and be able to travel throughout the Niagara Region to other offices, work locations, or sites as authorized by the Corporation for business reasons. Employees who use their personal vehicles for approved Region business shall ensure they are adequately insured with their personal insurance carrier. It is the employee's responsibility to possess and maintain a valid driver's license of the appropriate class to carry out their job in accordance with Corporate Policy.
- Support clients in their travel to locations in the community when it is relevant to the client’s recovery plan as per program policy (which allows the option of staff transporting clients in their personal vehicle)
- In accordance with Corporate Criminal Records Check policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records check, including vulnerable sector screening, and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate prior to commencing employment
- Be available to work flexible hours including weekend and/or evening hours as required
- Vaccinations as recommended in Public Health policy
