Job Description
JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Manager W&WW Skilled Trades, the System Maintenance Electrician plans, assembles, connects, installs, repairs, completes inspections, tests, calibrates, configures, and maintains electrical systems in various settings within the Water and Wastewater Division. Troubleshoots and carries out

specific maintenance tasks on equipment such as but not limited to: pumps, motors, variable frequency drives (VFD), UV systems, automatic transfer switches (ATS), switch gear, motor control centers (MCC), breakers, centrifugal and turbo style blowers, online instrumentation, lighting and power distribution systems. Delivers continuous preventative maintenance programs covering equipment, buildings and grounds for all W-WW area facilities and maintains applicable records using the division’ s computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).

Provides project review and coordination; supervises implementation and quality control of projects as it relates to electrical systems. Maintain compliance through inspections. Audits workmanship, materials and procedures throughout project lifecycle. Ensure process automation and electrical system specifications meet W-WW automation standards. Reviews and comments on projects (capital and operational), addressing concerns and potential problems or conflicts resulting from contract drawings, specifications pertaining to facility or field conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
  • Completion of Grade 12.
  • Must possess and maintain a Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Electrician (442A) or Construction and Maintenance Electrician (309A) in the province of Ontario.
  • Must possess a Certificate of Apprenticeship as an Industrial Electrician (442A) or Construction and Maintenance Electrician (309A), which includes completion of 9000 hours Electrical Apprenticeship Program through the Ontario College of Trades or Skilled Trades Ontario.
  • Additional post-secondary, continuing education or training with computer applications relevant to this position i.e. PLC training.
  • Additional post-secondary or continuing education in electrical/electronic technologies is an asset.
  • Gas Technician License (G1, G2, G3 or IMT) is an asset.
  • Must successfully obtain Ministry Operator-in-Training certification in Water Treatment and Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection and Treatment within three (3) months of commencing employment.
  • Additional education requirements, as per regulations for water and/or wastewater licensing.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
  • Three to five years in water/wastewater electrical maintenance or a similar industrial environment.
  • Must possess knowledge of operations and maintenance of plants and distribution systems.
  • Experience working with instrumentation and automation system maintenance.
  • Experience with the maintenance and operation of electrical substations, including switching up to 13,800 volts in substations.
  • Experience with the operation of large generators, including minor maintenance and repairs.
  • Experience with the installation and maintenance of VFDs.
  • Experience in the maintenance of natural and digester gas fired boiler systems is an asset.
  • Experience in the maintenance and calibration of Trojan UV Systems is an asset.
  • Must be knowledgeable about the Ontario Drinking Water Objectives and Ministry Certificates of Approval or Environmental Compliance Approval.
  • Must have working knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act and Niagara Region’s Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Experience working with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) considered an asset.

SKILLS
  • Must possess above average computer skills.
  • Must be able to employ a laptop computer to assist in troubleshooting and programming activities and downloading/uploading device configurations.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and as-built drawings and make modifications as required.
  • Must posses above average troubleshooting skills concerning electrical systems.
  • Must possess training in WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, Fall Protection, Lock and Tag out, Electrical Safety, Confined Space Entry/Rescue, Hazardous Materials Handling and Transportation of Dangerous Goods.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must work without direct supervision.
  • Must be able to supervise contractors and train staff or others.
  • Successfully complete all additional training as assigned by the Employer.
  • Travel required within system to perform maintenance.
  • In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted specified license for the class of the vehicle operated (Class G).
  • Must be an active member in good standing of Skilled Trades Ontario.
  • Must comply with all aspects of the Regional Respiratory Program Policy. Respiratory Fit Test mandatory.
