What can I expect to do in this role?You will:
• serve as a project lead from preliminary implementation planning through impact analysis and effective project tracking
• establish effective and collaborative working relationships with municipalities and other stakeholders
• provide planning advice, guidance and feedback on community planning and governance matters
• review and coordinate analyses of municipal planning documents for provincial land use interests
• lead and coordinate negotiations/mediations for the resolution of contentious planning and policy issues
• represent the ministry at conferences, seminars, inter and intra-ministerial committees, tribunals and other agencies

How do I qualify?Technical knowledgeYou have:
• knowledge of and experience in land use planning systems and processes, including municipal zoning by-laws and zoning by-law amendment processes
• the ability to interpret and apply related planning legislation, regulations, policies and programs (e.g. Planning Act)
• knowledge of planning theories, principles, practices and standards and can testify as an expert in land-use planning matters before the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) as necessary

Organizational and project management skillsYou have:
• leadership and organizational skills to lead multiple projects and manage multi-disciplinary teams
• experience with assigning/coordinating tasks to achieve project objectives, monitoring progress and reporting results

Consultation, negotiation and relationship management skillsYou have:
• consultation and relationship management skills to work effectively and establish credibility with contacts at all levels including other ministries and external stakeholders
• the ability to build consensus, negotiate, mediate and resolve conflicts

Communication skillsYou have:
• written and oral communication skills to effectively document and communicate complex information and recommendations to senior management, staff, other ministries and municipal planners
• the ability to produce reports, briefing material and presentations
• consultation, advisory and facilitation skills to work with ministries and external stakeholders to develop and implement planning policy and related programs

Research and analytical skillsYou can:
• evaluate strategies, identify issues, provide advice and make recommendations on planning issues
• research, analyze findings and issues, identify impacts, develop options, and make recommendations
• organize and undertake complex studies/analysis of planning issues and develop models and plans related to a range of planning activities
• assess/evaluate the implications and impact of proposed policy changes and identify policy gaps and issues
• identify and prioritize issues, and monitor financial performance/productivity
