Analyst, Data Management Operations - 12 month contract

The opportunity

The Data Management Operations team is responsible for the management of Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan security master, legal entity, market and reference data asset by ensuring the sustainable quality in the repositories and the downstream applications.

The Analyst, Data Management Operations will support various systems associated with activities related to the collection, validation, archiving, and distribution of security master, legal entity, market and reference data to applications within Teachers’.

You will complete testing, documentation, data validation, data input for a variety of traded instruments, including equities, fixed income, options, futures, FX, and complex derivative products.

Who you'll work with

You will work closely with members of Financial Operations, Capital Markets, Investment Finance (Performance Analytics, Risk Analytics, Total Fund Reporting), Compliance and Information Technology; the role will involve liaising and collaborating with various internal and external service providers in the delivery of solutions to meet the Plan’s changing requirements.

What you'll do

1. Carries out daily work within Data Management Operations

  • Ensure overnight processing has completed, work with internal and external teams to resolve any daily issues

  • Identify, analyze, respond to and resolve issues and problems

  • Determines and carries out appropriate solutions for issues and problems

  • Works with team members to ensure all critical priorities for the team are completed in the day

  • Recognizes database problems and takes appropriate action while ensuring compliance with business practices and policies

  • Provide assistance to team members as needed and provides back up during absences

  • Ensure documentation is maintained and up to date

2. Verify information and upholds controls

  • Manage the data exception process and resolve data exceptions generated by automated processing procedures

  • Checks and reconciles information to ensure accuracy.

  • Applies controls, checks and balances

  • Follows up on discrepancies and resolves discrepancies

  • Escalate issues as appropriate

  • Measure adherence to Service Level Agreements

3. Produces metric reports

  • Collect information for metric reporting with Business Intelligence Applications

  • Review metrics and escalate issues for analysis

4. Assists as required as a data resource on projects for the department under the guidance of the Manager or Senior Manager

  • Understands the flow and transformations of securities, legal entity and reference data from data vendor products used to source data various Teachers’ applications and repositories

  • Positively contribute to the delivery of project and change management initiatives

5. Identifies and carries out improvements for the unit:

  • Actively identifies efficiency improvements

  • Investigates and implements improvements

  • Assist in development/testing/implementation of new processes/systems

  • Collaborate on recommendations for process changes and improvements

  • Ensure up to date documentation

6. Produce reports for Internal and Audit purposes:

  • Generate standard reports for review by management

7. Service internal and external clients:

  • Provides global data expertise and service to internal clients

  • Responds to inquiries and requests from internal clients

  • Deals with internal clients in a professional and timely manner

8. Deal with internal and external suppliers:

  • Requests information as needed from data vendors and internal Investment Finance Operations

9. Other:

  • Investigates system handling of data products including testing of problems and testing of new systems

  • Maximize the use of technology in all work processes

  • Provide constructive ideas relative to Plan's operations

  • Maintain knowledge of issues affecting Plan's operations

  • Represents Teachers’ in a professional manner

  • Other duties as requested

What you'll need
  • Relevant university degree (such as Finance, Economics, Accounting, Computer Science) or equivalent relevant experience with Investment Finance processes

  • Knowledge in the following areas:

    • Security master - Listed, derivatives, market indices, alternative investments

    • Legal Entities - parties and investment vehicles

    • Pricing - both market available and evaluated

    • Corporate actions and associated lifecycle events

    • Reference data - asset/industry classification, holiday calendar

  • Ability to communicate effectively with the business and Information Technology

  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to think through problems, assess a variety of factors and recommend a solution

  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, SQL and Python

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Power Apps, Power BI, Power Automate, Copilot and Confluence are an asset

  • Good knowledge of third-party data vendors, along with experience using Bloomberg

  • Asset if knowledgeable with asset management systems and platforms such as: security master and legal entity data management (Markit EDM, Charles River and SimCorp)

  • Understanding of database technology and concepts

  • Must be able to work to deadlines, adapt to a rapidly changing environment and sustain high productivity levels

  • Must be extremely detail oriented, organized and thorough

  • Self-starter, confident, innovative, team player

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Must be able to effectively deal with internal and external clients and suppliers

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision

  • Canadian Securities Course or a designation (CFA, CPA, FRM etc) would be an asset

  • Ability to cover early morning and end of day shifts
