Emergency Classroom Supervisor
Summary
Reporting to the Principal/Vice Principal, the Emergency Classroom Supervisor will provide:
Adult supervision in a classroom when the regularly assigned teacher is absent and a certified replacement teacher is not available;
Support a safe learning environment; and
Assistance to students with completing work assigned by the classroom teacher.
Emergency Classroom Supervisors may only be scheduled on the morning of the assignment and therefore must be available and willing to pick up assignments without advance notice.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide supervision for a class of students or groups of students to ensure a safe and secure environment
Taking attendance and reporting student absences
Assist students to complete work that has been assigned by the classroom teacher;
Follow school safety protocols and school and student safety plans to ensure the health and safety of staff and students
Maintain confidentiality and protect student privacy
Perform additional duties that may be assigned by the Principal / Vice-Principal, including supervision on the school yard, in hallways or other areas of the school.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills
As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must provide a valid Police Records Check for Vulnerable Sector (PVRC) that was completed within six months of date of hire.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at time of employment
Completion of a high school diploma; preference will be given to applicants currently enrolled in a university or college program or graduates of these programs
Experience working/volunteering with children and/or adults, preferably in an education setting
Sound judgment and decision-making skills
Proficiency in English language, with French language skills considered an asset
Ability to follow instructions and show initiative.
Maintain strict confidentiality and privacy
Availability to work between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and flexibility to accept assignments on the same day
