SCHOOL LIBRARY TECHNICIAN

Location: Jack Donohue PS

Position Status: 60% Regular, Part-time

Work Year: 10 months per year

Hours of Work: 9:00 am - 2:00pm Monday/Tuesday & 9:00am - 3:00pm Wednesday/Thursday

Affiliation: OSSTF District 25 - Educational Support Professionals (ESP)

Salary Rate: $26.22 to $32.67 per hour (Level 5)

Effective: As soon as possible



Job Summary

Under the direction of the Principal or designate, the Library Technician will provide technical and public services and perform other duties related to library operations such as organize, maintain, select, order, circulate print and non-print materials, provide reference services, research and prepare support materials for units of study, and perform public relations, supervisory and clerical activities.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Library and Information Technician, and 1 to 2 years of library experience.
  • Understanding of Cataloguing and classification systems.
  • Research skills required;
  • Proficiency in computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets and databases), ability to perform internet searches and use research tools.
  • Experience operating and maintaining library software.
  • Organizational skills required to schedule classes/small groups and prioritize concurrent tasks and deadlines.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills required, including writing communication skills.
  • The ability to use tact, judgment and diplomacy when dealing with staff, students, parents/volunteers.
  • The ability to work in both English and French is an asset.

Application Process

Applications will be considered in accordance with the ESP Collective Agreement, in the following order:

1. Applications from Regular full-time and part-time employees within ESP bargaining unit are given first consideration. (Internal Posting)

2. Applications from term and casual employees within ESP bargaining unit are given 2nd consideration. (External Posting)

3. Applications from External candidates (including Board employees that do not belong to this bargaining unit) will be considered only if applications from 1 & 2 have been exhausted.

Vacancies are posted as Internal and External. Casual and Term employees must apply to the External posting.

In accordance with the collective agreement, a newly hired regular employee is not eligible to accept another position (i.e. move positions) for a period of six (6) months.

Evaluation & Assessment: In accordance with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board's Administrative and Support Staff Selection Process, the evaluation and assessment of candidates will be completed using the following four (4) identified areas of performance: Organizational and Management Skills, Communication, Interpersonal Skills, and Knowledge and Practice, as they relate to the duties, qualifications, knowledge and education outlined above.
