Mechanical Tradesperson/Millwright - TERM

Facilities Maintenance Department

Position Status: Term, 100%

Work Year: Works 12 months per year

Expected End Dates: Position #1: February 4, 2025 / Position #2: June 30, 2025

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, which includes a 30 minute unpaid meal break (40 hours per week)

Salary range: $38.39 to $39.75 per hour ($79,857 to $82,676)

Reporting to the Team Lead and under the general direction of the Crew Chief, the Mechanical Tradesperson / Millwright ensures building components are maintained by installing, operating and repairing mechanical equipment; ensuring work is performed in a safe and effective manner, complying with OCDSB and legislative standards and codes; ensuring Board vehicles, equipment and tools are properly maintained; performing other related duties to ensure that properties, facilities, and equipment are properly maintained.

Qualifications

Knowledge of and continual upgrading of relevant codes and legislation (Acts and Regulations), new materials, equipment, products, methods and procedures.

Knowledge of Locking Out and Tagging procedures.

Interpersonal and communication skills required to liaise with coworkers, plant supervisors, chief custodians, and other Board personnel to gather information regarding problems, order and purchase supplies/materials; listening skills required to understand explanations of problems and how equipment is functioning, must have a good understanding of fluid mechanics (hydraulic/pneumatic) and all components involved, etc.

Initiative and judgment are required to make decisions such as methods of repair and equipment/supplies needed, prioritizing work orders; organization skills to prioritize work and reschedule activities due to emergency calls; ability to use a variety of tools, e.g., drills, voltage and multimeter, pipe wrenches; ability to report code violations, complete forms such as daily logs and work order sheets; ability to calculate formulae for volume and material costing, etc.

Ability to use electronic mail system and computer maintenance management system and to work with minimum supervision.

This knowledge would normally be obtained through completion of secondary school diploma and:

a valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification 433A Millwright, or

Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification 313A Refrigeration Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic (Note: this position does not require use of the refrigeration component of the trade license) or equivalent will be considered, and

a minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial or commercial maintenance.

The incumbent must keep all relevant licenses current and take approved training courses as required. The incumbent must have a valid Ontario Class G driver's license.
