The National Control Tower Manager is responsible for managing a daily shift at the NCT operation with a national scope based at the national Hub Ontario. Responsibilities include management of a team that oversees air and ground network monitoring, reporting of network service concerns, fulfillment of asset needs across the network, fulfillment of transportation requests, planning of ad-hoc trips and intake / resolution of various operational issues. Responsible for development and performance of the team and cultivating a customer serving, problem solving and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Daily proactive and reactive network monitoring.
  • Fulfillment of operational requests including ad-hoc trips, trailer repositioning, service calls, etc.
  • Network system reporting to include carrier status updates, daily carrier compliance, and service.
  • Liaison with external transport suppliers to source carriers to support current operational needs.
  • Work with stakeholders resolving network issues.
  • Mentor, train, and develop key team members and stakeholders to acquire the required skills for successful implementation and sustainability of key initiatives.
  • Manage dispatch operations to meet all corporate cost objectives, and NCT coordinators by providing coaching and direction to meet transportation and operational needs.
  • Development of employees to prepare them for advancement within the organization.
  • Ensure Contractors follow the Purolator's Standard Contract, conduct Contractor orientation, refresher training, and Safety Conferences when required.
  • Work with Purolator terminals on local issues and resolve questions.
  • Orient new employees to the organization & department, policies & procedures, and review position responsibilities and expectations of performance.
  • Evaluate performance results of direct reports; discuss performance with reports.
Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent work experience
  • Over 5 years and including 10 years (progressive experience)
  • Strong knowledge of the transportation industry with familiarity in Courier, LTL, 3PL, Logistics, and broad North American transportation.
  • Experience in coast to coast, cross border, international, intermodal, high value, and handling hazardous materials.
  • Purolator International, Logistics and Freight network knowledge preferred.
  • Exceptionally high computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Knowledge of carrier outsourcing, negotiating, contracting, and network design and structure.
  • Thorough knowledge of Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including hours of service; National Safety Code, Safety auditing, safe driving standards.
  • Required to negotiate and influence change in process and current situation by interacting with internal and external customers at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to clearly define problems, perform feasibility studies, and recommend innovative processing methods with cost/benefit analysis.
  • Ability to use data and facts to demonstrate sound judgment in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks by desired timelines.
