The position will be responsible for completing model validations of Credit Risk models developed for use in Retail Credit and Small Business strategies. In addition, the position will also support the effective challenge and validation of credit strategies supported by GRM in its second line of defense role. What is the opportunity?

Group Risk Management(GRM) Portfolio, Policy and Strategy team is hiring a Senior Manager Model Validation and Credit Strategies. This position will report to the Director, Model Validation and Credit Strategies. The position will be responsible for completing model validations of Credit Risk models developed for use in Retail Credit and Small Business strategies. In addition, the position will also support the effective challenge and validation of credit strategies supported by GRM in its second line of defense role. This will be a unique opportunity to learn and experience all facets of the model and credit strategy life cycle.

What will you do?

  • Review credit strategies and provide effective challenge for strategy proposals for Retail Credit Acquisition and Account Management strategies. Engage senior management and GRM partners as required to ensure effective risk oversight
  • Validate Credit Risk models in accordance with Enterprise Model Risk Policy. Responsible for documentation related to new and existing models (annual assessment and re-validation, model updates, issue closure)
  • Monitor existing models and strategies, identifying potential opportunities, weaknesses and limitations. Perform ad-hoc analysis as required to support recommendations to improve model and strategy performance
  • Continue to develop technical skills and leverage best practices to assist in model validation and credit strategy reviews. Explore new methodologies and tools to enhance models and strategies to drive innovation in credit strategy and model validation

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • University Degree in a quantitative field of study (e.g. mathematics, statistics, finance, computer science, or related field)
  • 5+ years working experience in advanced statistical methods (logistic/linear regression, survival analysis, optimization, time-series forecasting, supervised/unsupervised machine learning) and/or credit strategy development
  • Experience in the development of data driven credit strategies including understanding of credit risk fundamentals and financial modelling.
  • Expertise in data manipulation on large datasets with advanced programming skills (SQL, SAS, Python, R, Spark), including relevant statistical, machine learning, and deep learning libraries (pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, tensorflow/pytorch, etc.). Good foundations in big data frameworks (Apache Spark, Hadoop, Hive, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Exceptionally strong conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills combined with strong written and verbal communication skills in order to articulate conclusions
  • Proven track record delivering high quality and accurate work with the ability to multitask and shift priorities as required

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of bank retail products and credit lending processes, working experience with financial and credit bureau information
  • Knowledge on data access, data modeling, data architecture and data storage techniques
  • Experience with adaptive control software (e.g. TRIAD, Probe, Pathfinder) and credit scoring technologies
  • Financial Risk Manager (FRM) / Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) / Society of Actuaries (SOA) designation
