For more information visit our web site at: https://rccdsb.ca/ Union Affiliation: COPE, Local 103JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to the Manager of IT , the IT Specialist will be responsible for:Provide leadership and support for corporate software applications, end user support within the Districts corporate environment and maintain the corporate server backups, updates, etc; Liaise and provide technical support for other departments including staff/user training and technical support of Corporate/Administrative Applications and all school based applications and equipment; Assist with the design and maintain backup strategies and disaster recovery plans for major systems and ensure that documented procedures are available; Develop implementation plans including equipment, software, staffing requirements/projected effort, training, data conversion and project timelines with respect to implementation of corporate systems; Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers and obtain latest technical information to resolve software, hardware and network problems. Contact suppliers of new equipment whenever defects are encountered within warranty periods and make arrangements regarding required documentation, shipping details and packing instructions; Investigate, design and implement applications such as video conferencing and voice communications over wide area network; Provide support for maintaining school board computer equipment, routine repairs, and preventative maintenance at the District office and school sites as required; Planning and maintenance of new and existing Board and School LAN and WAN communication links; Maintenance and installation of WAN (Wide Area Network) nodes and components; Maintenance and installation of LAN (Local Area Network) servers and components; Configuring, programming and table maintenance of WAN equipment, including routers, bridges, hubs and switches; Maintaining Board and School computer equipment, routine repairs, and preventative maintenance; Developing and maintaining operational procedures and documentation for WAN and LAN operations and troubleshooting; Developing and maintaining network diagnostic procedures and documentation for computer support staff and end users; Assisting in the planning and installation of LAN (Local Area Network) systems, including, but not limited to, Microsoft 2008 server; Implementing and maintaining electronic security systems to protect WAN resources; Maintaining back-ups and maintaining disaster recovery plans for WAN and LAN components, including school and Board servers; Liaising with outside contractors on network planning, installation and troubleshooting; Keeping abreast of new technology developments and network hardware and software components; and Other related duties. QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum 2-year diploma in Computer Systems, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering or its equivalent from the Ministry of Education, Training, Colleges and Universities recognized Ontario Community College or University; A minimum of two years of progressive experience in Local Area Networking (LAN) and Wide Area Networking (WAN) installation, troubleshooting, and support; A minimum of two years of working experience in PC repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, installation and support; Excellent working knowledge of microcomputer and network operating systems and protocols (i.e., Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, TCP/IP); A self-motivated, critical thinking team player with superior inter-personal and organizational skills; Present and maintain a composed, discreet and professional manner, and the ability to handle multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced computerized environment; Dedication to continuing education and attending related Board-sponsored courses/seminars, etc. Excellent command of verbal and written English; A valid drivers license in good standing with the Ministry of Transportation, and access to a reliable mode of transportation for travel among Board schools and offices; A+ Certification, experience with Novell GroupWise, Programming SkillVisual Basic, C+, Web Development, Microsoft Office, Word and Excel, Word Press are assets.
