The Inclusion Team Elementary Teacher uses strength-based and trauma informed approaches and a universal design framework to support classroom teachers and support staff working with students exhibiting unique learning challenges with an emphasis on students with Ministry of Education Special Needs designations “Physically Dependent” (A), “Deafblind” (B), “Moderate to Profound Intellectual Disability” (C), “Physical Disability or Chronic Health” (D), “Visual Impairment” (E), “Deaf or Hard of Hearing” (F), “Autism” (G), "Mild Intellectual Disability" (K).

The Inclusion Team Elementary Teacher collaborates with elementary classroom teachers to support student success in the classroom environment and based on the students’ individual strengths and stretches, provides individualized opportunities for students to develop the core competencies.

The Inclusion Team Elementary Teacher acts as case manager; developing and implementing education plans such as Individual Education Plans and Positive Behavior Support Plans. This teacher enables student access to prevention and intervention related supports and services as per student social, emotional, physical, mental well-being. This teacher coordinates specialized services such as occupational therapy and physiotherapy services. This teacher liaises with Learning Services personnel and outside agencies in support of students and families.

Qualifications

Diploma or Master’s in the area of Inclusive Education preferred OR at least three courses in inclusive education in the area of ASD, intellectual disability and physical impairment.

Successful elementary level teaching experience.

Experience using a strength-based approach and a UDL framework to enable student access to curriculum learning in the classroom environment.

Experience developing and implementing Individual Education Plans, Safety Plans and Positive Behavior Support Plans.

Current CPI training an asset.
