POSITION DETAILS:

The Learning Support Program provides a two-year secondary program offering an adapted/modified core curriculum, remediation, and coping strategies for Grade 8 and 9 students with diagnosed Learning Disabilities. The goal of the program is to support academics and assist students in developing compensatory learning strategies. The successful candidate will deliver modified/adapted Science 8 and 9 in this block.

SCHOOL AND PROGRAM PROFILE:

Vancouver Alternate Secondary School (VASS) programs are a Type-3 Alternate School. It is comprised of nine interagency programs and six alternative programs. The inter-agency programs are partnerships between the VSB, MCFD, and contract service providers such as Milieu Family Service, UNYA, PLEA, and PCRS. The programs focus on educational, social, and emotional goals for students with complex learning profiles. VASS provides its support through differentiated instruction, program delivery focusing on positive relationships, and enhanced counselling services based on student need. SVLC is a linear Program designed for students in Grades 8-10. The primary goal of SVLC is to provide students with a safe and inclusive environment with additional academic, behavioural, and/or social/emotional support. The curriculum focuses on academic and elective courses leading to a BC Secondary School Graduation Certificate. The partner agency for SLVC is Milieu Family Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor of Education

Qualifications and/or successful teaching experience in secondary school sciences.

Qualifications and/or experience with ELL instruction and Special Education..

Skills to differentiate instructional practices to meet the needs of diverse learners and engage students for success.

Skills to Implement the curriculum and assessment frameworks using innovative instructional and assessment practices.

Work collaboratively with colleagues in goal setting within the department at Windermere.

Participate cooperatively in our school community to achieve the goals of the Windermere School Plan.
