Finance Data Analyst - 2698


Duration: 1 year

Location: Hybrid - Markham (2-3 days (once training is completed))


The Finance Data Analyst is a champion for building data literacy and maturity across Finance. This includes ensuring Finance data meets strict data quality standards and maintains robust and effective risk and controls.


Must Have Skills:

• 3+ years of relevant experience in data environment, financial analysis and/or reporting (Finance, P&C Insurance)

• Knowledge and experience in data management and data stewardship

• Bachelor’s degree and either designated or pursuing CPA/CA

• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with experience in data profiling an asset

• Proficient in MS Office (Visio, PowerPoint, Excel, Word), Qlik Sense, Business Objects, and familiarity with relevant finance software (e.g., Oracle)

• Excellent communication and organization skills, with the ability to foster and build good working relationships across the organization

• Bilingual capabilities (English/French) an asset


Responsibilities:

• Participate in building data capabilities within Finance, ensuring data strategies and principles are applied consistently and data risks are considered throughout the data lifecycle

• Work proactively with internal Finance stakeholders, other business units including IT, legal, privacy and data governance on business as usual and project initiatives

• Manage the Data Issue Log, including follow-up and/or managing the resolution of issues, and escalating to Data Governance Office where applicable

• Key contributor to the Finance Data Forums which may include preparing meeting materials, scribe and/or facilitator as well as the quarterly data quality dashboards and scorecard

• Maintain the Data Teams’ policies, user guides, and other relevant documentation

• Assist in the accurate and timely execution of Chart of Account (COA) requests

• Understand and maintain Finance hierarchies, e.g., IFRS17, CGAAP, Management Information (MI), and corresponding reference data management

• Actively engaged on COA activities including intake request review and assessments

• Support the development/refinement of appropriate efficiency metrics, dashboards and financial/non-financial KPIs to build on Finance data dictionary and MI inventories

• Contribute to the development and implementation of procedures/processes within the team

• Represent Finance when participating in Data Impact Assessments (DIA) or Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA)

• Take part in the implementation of internal control policies and procedures and embed governance controls in Finance change activity

• Collaborate with governance and IT teams to build automated data quality and retention processes

• Continue to improve governance requirements

• Engage with internal Finance teams, internal risk and/or external auditors as necessary on testing, evidence and iCARE updates

• Manage relevant team data on the Canada Finance SharePoint site

• Prepare and maintain Finance reports as applicable
