Our GTA based, Municipal Government client requires the services of an Intermediate Business Analyst with strong data experience to support their Data/BI team.

ROLE:

The successful candidate will support the Data-Informed Decisions workstream as part of Client’s Digital Strategy. This role involves close collaboration with the data engineering team and business intelligence experts to develop comprehensive reference documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Data Dictionary Development:

Create a data dictionary that serves both business users and the data engineering team. Given its broad user base, the dictionary should be designed with a flexible, user-friendly format. Additionally, it should include collaborative features that allow users to contribute and update information seamlessly.

2. Requirements Documentation:

Translate reporting needs into specific data requirements for Client’s Enterprise Data Analytics Platform. This involves consulting with business users and business intelligence leads to gather their needs for data-informed decision-making. The resulting documents will guide the data engineering team in ensuring that the appropriate data is available for dashboards and reports.

3. Business Process Mapping:

Conduct business process mapping, drawing from both documented and undocumented sources. This will include reviewing existing materials (e.g., online forms, older process maps, training videos, reports) and engaging with internal stakeholders. The goal is to create detailed diagrams that capture process and data flows within the organization, identify gaps, and provide recommendations for data model design or potential new systems, particularly in support of the Tracking Branch Hours project.

4. Market Scan and Tool/Application Assessment:

Evaluate internal applications and software capabilities against established requirements. Based on this analysis, provide recommendations to align applications and software with business needs. This may involve conducting a market scan of potential new tools not currently in use at Client, especially in support of the Tracking Branch Hours and Data Quality Optimization projects.

5. Test Case Development:

Collaborate with the project manager, engineering team, and business intelligence team to develop and monitor test cases, including user acceptance testing and quality assessment tests.

Work Environment:

The candidate will be provided with a laptop and is expected to work on-site at the Client on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 AM to 5 PM. Remote work is available on other days.

MUST HAVE:

  • Ability to communicate, understand requirements, ask the right questions and take an active role in translating needs into proper documents.
  • Ability to see a goal or need, such as creating a document, and then be able to break down the individual series of steps needed to successfully deliver.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of staff including interviews and eliciting requirements.
  • Experience in supporting documentation that includes data schema design and architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability in IT analysis methodologies (e.g., process flow definition, data flow diagramming).
  • C2 English proficiency per CEFR due to the need for advanced communication skills in documentation of complex ideas and requirements.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Microsoft Visio.

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Smartsheets, Microsoft Power Automate, SharePoint, Azure.
