Junior Technical Lead (Java/Springboot/Angular) to lead a team working on retail teller applications - 36659

Location Address: Hybrid - Scarborough - 2 days/month (could increase) - 1st Tuesday of month and 2nd is based on everyone’s availability, typically 3rd Thursday of the month

Contract Duration: ASAP to Oct 31, 2025 - approx. 8 months

Possibility of extension & conversion to FTE

Schedule Hours: 9am-5pm Monday-Friday; standard 37.5 hrs/week

Story Behind the Need

• Business group: Client Engineering - Development & Business Analysis - Retail Banking - working on retail teller applications used in branches
• Project: NRT Initiative and Forms Free Teller System Applications - project to update cheques scanning processes used in branches- and pulled into other projects on a needs basis

Typical Day in Role:

• Primarily focused on strategy, problem solving and challenging our solution engineers to build amazing products and services.
• Ensuring products are well maintained by identifying and eliminating technical debt.
• Ability to showcase progress in projects/initiatives/programs, holding people accountable to their commitments and making sure we are on track for successful delivery.
• Participating in design discussions focused on building the best customer experience,
• Design and implementation of best practices/processes.
• Assisting in architectural solution designs, roadmaps and related strategies that are aligned to Enterprise Standards in the effort to modernization software applications.
• Present and leverage technical information and solutions in a way that establishes trust relationships, persuades stakeholders, and achieves understanding and consensus at all levels.
• Assess and analyze business strategy & requirements, the current technical environment and technology options to evaluate solution alternatives that meet business needs and bank strategy.
• Participating in planning and review sessions.
• Partner with multiple teams across the bank to collaborate on strategy and direction.
• Assisting senior management to enforce standards and methodology; ensuring solutions are in line with the technology roadmap and mentoring the technical team members on a project-to-project basis.

Candidate Requirements/Must Have Skills:

1) 3+ years experience as a Technical Lead

2) 2+ years development experience with Java / Angular / Springboot

3) 1+ year experience with Bitbucket, JIRA, Confluence

4) Experience in Agile environment

5) 1+ year experience working with applications hosted on cloud platforms (GCP preferred)

Nice-To-Have Skills:

1) Experience from banking

2) Project management or scrum master experience

3) Experience in MSSQL DB

Education:

Bachelor's degree in a technical field

Best VS. Average Candidate:

The tech lead will not be working hands-on developing code and instead will be managing the project and developers, so has to be strong in asking the right technical clarifying questions, in leading the team, and can demonstrate they have the right soft skills to be able to communicate with senior stakeholders; requires minimal hand holding and can take initiative; still has the relevant development background to be able to understand the developers’ issues and resolve them, and has that recent lead experience to help them through the coding challenges while being a leader and communicate with the business
