Our valued professional services client is seeking a Senior Emergency Dispatcher to support the testing of emergency response software!

Long-term engagement starting as an initial 1-year contract. 100% remote, part-time. Work to be performed as and when needed -- mainly when new releases are planned for the software being supported.

As the selected candidate, you will help test and validate mission-critical software. The client develops emergency response software used by first responders across Canada, and is seeking someone with real-world experience on the dispatch floor or in managing emergency response systems. This is a unique opportunity to directly impact the quality and reliability of life-saving technology used nationwide.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in regression and iterative testing of emergency dispatch software to identify bugs, usability issues, and operational inconsistencies.
  • Act as a bridge between developers/testers and real-world dispatch workflows, providing critical insights that enhance product accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Assist with test planning, scenario development, and validation of key dispatcher or emergency response use cases.
  • Validate new features and bug fixes before and after releases using both scripted and exploratory testing methods.
  • Collaborate with QA testers, developers, and project stakeholders to provide contextual feedback and ensure quality in every stage of development.
  • Contribute to documentation and knowledge transfer from an operational perspective.

Must Have Skills:

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience as a 911 Emergency Dispatcher, ambulance dispatcher, or emergency response systems manager (e.g., in health and safety, EMS coordination, or security operations).
  • Familiarity with CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) systems and emergency call-taking or response processes.
  • Willingness to participate in structured testing (waterfall methodology) as well as provide iterative feedback.

Nice-to-have Skills:

  • Experience participating in software testing or user acceptance testing (UAT) initiatives.
  • Familiarity with tools used in defect tracking and testing (e.g., JIRA, TestRail).
  • Recent dispatch or emergency response experience, or availability to consult with active response centers to validate workflows.
  • Background in quality assurance or user-centered design.
