The Simcoe

County District School Board is committed to supporting the academic

achievement and mental health and well-being of all students. Reporting to the Mental Health Lead and the

Assistant Manager of Social Work Services, working as part of a

multi-disciplinary team, the successful candidate(s) will:

Provide individual and small group counselling to

students struggling with mental health and addiction concerns.

Provide suicide risk and violent threat risk

assessment, in collaboration with family, school, community and health system

partners. Provide response where school communities have been impacted by a

traumatic event.

Provide psychoeducation to staff, students and

families on mental health and addiction topics, addressing the intersection

with equity, special education, and Indigenous Education needs.

Collaborate in the development of prevention and

intervention initiatives, with an emphasis on safe schools. Areas include but

are not limited to bullying prevention, substance use, suicide prevention,

pathways to mental health care and leading mentally healthy schools.

Work with school staff to build capacity and

support the advancement of mental health literacy and delivery of mental health

and well-being prevention, and promotion strategies, education, programs, and

services inclusive and reflective of student mental health need, while drawing

upon the best evidence and research available.

Provide coaching and consultative services to

school staff and parents in response to and to promote understanding of the

mental health needs of students and school communities.

Provide system navigation and referral services to

students and families.

Collaborate with various community partners within

Simcoe County in response to student mental health needs.

Provide support and service rooted in cultural

humility, anti-racism, and anti-oppressive practice.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree is required.

Preference will be given to candidates with a Master of Social Work (MSW)

degree.

Membership, in good standing, with the Ontario

College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).

3 years’ experience in children and youth mental health

services delivering individual and group counselling and consultative and

coaching services to support positive outcomes for children, youth, and their

families.

Expertise

in anti-oppressive, brief, strengths-based and evidence informed

interventions. Expertise in BRISC, Brief

Digital Interventions, Single Session, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive

Behavioral Therapy and Trauma Informed and Responsive Education practices.

Demonstrated skill in

suicide risk assessment and response and traumatic incident response.

Facilitator status of

safeTALK and ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) an asset.

Demonstrated

knowledge of service delivery approaches rooted in intersectionality, anti-racist

and anti-oppressive practice that nurture safe(r) spaces, cultural humility,

and inclusivity.

Demonstrated experience in

developing successful collaborations both within a school board as well as with

the wider community. Knowledge of community and social service agencies,

their mandate, programs, and services.

Demonstrated experience with

transference of knowledge and building the capacity of other professional

services.

Demonstrated ability to work

within a multi-disciplinary team.

Strong analytical skills.

Effective communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.

Excellent organizational

skills and ability to maintain up to date and accurate documentation, in

accordance with professional standards.

Ability to work independently and utilize

professional discretion.

Excellent computer skills including experience with

data management systems, MS Office Applications - Word and Excel.

Experience in an educational setting is preferred.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and have

reliable transportation.

This position is a thirty-five (35) hour work week and is based on

working the school year - ten (10) months and ten (10) days. The compensation

range for candidates who hold a Bachelor of Social Work is $68,663 - $84,641 per

year. Compensation for candidates who hold their Master of Social Work is $76,095

to $93,939 per year. This is a unionized position and union dues are

applicable. The nature of this position will require the successful candidate

to service large geographical areas, mileage reimbursement at the Board

approved rate.
